Hi everyone,

I've managed to nut out most of my problems with mame & mamewah and things are coming along nicely.  :)

I've managed to get Aracade Jukebox launching from Mamewah as well as Mame, and most likely i'll look into other emulators along the way.

One thing I wanted to know, is it possible to create a list of the available emulators/applications on *one* skin/layout for mamewah ie without having to go into the menus and switch between emulators. I wanted it to be easy for n00bs to be able to just select what that want eg Jukebox from a menu, say down the right hand side.

Is this possible and how? Using custom menus?
Sorry to be bothersome, my searches didn't bring up anything useful this time  :-\

Thanks  :)

Yes, but I had to fake it :D

Mamewah will let you have a different background graphic for each emulator. I just used the same font that I'm using for the main game selection for the list on the right (i.e. Mame has "Arcade" in white and the other options grayed out as part of the background image, NEShas "Nintendo" in white etc.)

Limitations: You can cycle forwards through the emulator list in Mamewah but not backwards at this time (I'm eagerly awaiting this feature).
Nevertheless, people trying to use the arcade for the first time are having a much easier time than those that had to switch blind through the different emulators.

OK, so your list is just a part of the background image (non-interactive).. correct?

This might be a dumb question, but that screengrab you had there, can you display all the emus at once (in mamewah) or is that just an example of all the seperate emulator backgrounds, shown together for web display purposes?

Do the users still have to go into the menu and choose the different emulator? or is there a shortcut to switch emualtors/apps?

Yeah, in Mamewah's controls section you can assign a button to switch emulators, and another to switch lists.
Hope that helps :)

By default switching emulators is setup to '4', switching custom lists is '3' btw :)

On this topic, I was thinking about this lately and was going to suggest to Minwah to see what he thinks.  I ran across a frontend called UltimateAppLauncher from the mameroom.net website--available as a demo download.  What i like about it, is that in the opening selection screen, 3D models of the various consoles and arcade cabinet are viewable in a rotating circle formation to page through and select your console, mame or even jukebox, etc.  of choice.  I really like it as an intro screen as anyone could easily come to this and select what they want to use.  Then after selecting, it could then bring up the layout screen for each console/mame that is already available with MAMEwah.  So basically, an addition of a "selection" screen which would lead to the layouts that are currently available with MAMEwah.  Perhaps a nice 3D rotation setup with a "MAMEwah" graphic in the center.  Just a thought.  I think it would really add to the look and usability (For users) of MAMEwah.  Not sure how difficult to add or otherwise.  Check it out at mameroom.net.  Would be nice to tie them together somehow.

I couldn't get the mameroom site to work (?) but it sounds like something one could possible achieve in 3dArcade?  My knowledge of the FE isn't massive tho...

To be honest I wouldn't be that interested in adding something like that to MAMEWAH :(.  The 'intro' screen seems kindof pointless to me since people will want to swap emulators anyway, what happens then?  Back to the intro screen?  I agree that switching emulators etc. could be more intuitive in MW tho - hopefully I'll look into that in the future... :)

 >:(  I've still got a bad taste left in my mouth from the ultimate applauncher.  I liked the demo but noticed it lacked in areas and had quite a few bugs in it.  So, I figured I would purchase the full version (because they must have more to it than what's in the demo right?) I mean since they were charging $20 for it and all... WRONG!  The only thing purchasing it does it remove the nag screen at the beginning and let you add more than three emulators at a time in the selection menu.  It's was still full of bugs and all.  Anyway, I'm using Mamewah now and it blows the ultimate applauncher out of the water... plus it's FREE!  Thank's Minwah for you're honest hard work and a great frontend!  I'm just bummed I threw $20 out the window before I discovered it.

whew... sorry for the rant guys.  I just think it's crappy that they're charging $20 for the Applauncher when so many people here have made awesome front ends and will bend over backwards to help you for free.

yes you can setup the cylarcade menutype like that as your gamleist selection screen. But not all consoles have been modeled yet.

OK, thanks for that. I missed it in the readme  8)
I found the "lock menu" as well, this should come in handy.
Does anyone here lock the menus when running mame in a cab?
