[PROJECT] Building a replica Neo Geo cab!
« on: March 11, 2025, 02:01:25 am »
I guess I should start off by explaining that I'm what you might consider a “power user” to those who are tech inclined. But this is mostly exclusive to new computer tech. I have a lot to learn, and I suspect that making my dream cabinet won't be as easy as I'd like. There are many gaps in my knowledge. But regardless of this fact, I shall persist. The reason why? The allure and almost unattainable nature of arcade games.

Now, I'm pretty young (23) and I've been playing video games for a while now, and was lucky enough to be exposed to some great consoles. The first game I ever played was on my family's old NES. I had cousins who had a PS2, N64, and later in life I got a Wii, ds, etc. In my late teens I was mostly on my computer. All this to say, that despite me being lucky enough to play and own these consoles, I never could fathom owning a real arcade cabinet. They were too big, expensive, and usually only contained a single game. Even as a kid, they were out of fashion, so add rarely seen to the list. Now that I'm older, I've gone out to arcades, discovered pinball, and have been having a blast with this stuff. But now, travelling is cumbersome, and I think it's time I dedicate some time to this hobby that I love.

So, the reason why I picked SNK’s Neo Geo as my target? METAL SLUG. These games blew me away when I was a kid. Like clockwork, everyday, I'd play the psp collection on the school bus. The art, the sound, the humor, it was all there. At the time I didn't even know I was playing an arcade game, go figure. Anyway, if you got through my long winded intro, I guess I'll be posting updates here. Wish me luck!

Oh yeah, I bought the MDF already.  8)
