Trouble calibrating Aimtrak, at my wits end please help!
« on: September 01, 2024, 02:29:09 pm »
Hello, i just upgraded my cab for light guns. I bought 2 Aimtrak lightguns and the plan was to use it my mame cabinet with a wells gardner D9400 27" Monitor. I was hoping i would be able to use it without a light bar since it's a CRT and not an LCD. Looks like that isn't possible so i tried it using the stock light bar that comes with the guns. When i tried calibrating it i wouldn't detect my gun on the bottom half of the screen. I used the aimtrak software to calibrate it and could shoot the left hand corner and right hand corner but not the bottom anf final shot to calibrate it. I checked the sensor tab and i could see the dot moving around until i below a certain point.

At first i thought the problem could be that the monitor is tilted in and not straight up. I'm using an old MK Cabinet. Seeing as i wasn't having any luck i went to plan "B". I decided to use my 55" TV instead. When i researched and found out the was a super ir bar and frome there i learned about the extreme ir bar. I bought the extreme ir bar this week and tried to set it up today. I'm having the same dam issue. Please, in the name of all that is holy....Can anyone help me!!??

The manual lists these as causes for repeating the same shot or now sending the shot when calibrating:
1. You may be too close to the screen.
2. The LEDs are not pointed properly. If top mounted then they should be pointed slightly down, or slightly up if mounted from the bottom of the screen.
3. The USB port may not be rated with enough power for the LEDs and they're too dim at specific angles (in which case the dot will be orange in the tool).

Sorry, there isn't a lot that can be done to troubleshoot if it's not one of these issues.

It's been so long since I set mine up but I had the same issue. From what I remember, I had to set up the first gun before plugging in and setting up the second one. I had to recently recalibrate a gun after the kids came over and still had a terrible time with the bottom screen shot. I was hoping the extreme ir bar (which I don't
have) would make this easier but I guess not. After many, many multiple tries It finally took but not sure why?... Also Mavericks arcade on YouTube had some helpful videos for setting these up. If you ever nail down the reason for this I would love to know. Goodluck

Hi. I have had this issue with my aimtraks in the past. I found they work best on an almost vertical flat screen with the IR bar mounted 1 inch from the top. Calibrate them in a completely dark room and with the glass removed to avoid any reflections. Turn up the gain and clean the IR receiver in the gun barrell.

Now they work flawlessly.
Thanks

Thanks vandale, Next time I need to calibrate I will use your tips. By the way, are you using the regular IR bar or the newer extreme ir bar and if so does it make a difference? Thanks
