That's pretty sweet. Wonder how close you can be on a larger screen. Current solutions need a wide angle lens which distorts the sensor location a bit, which then affects accuracy.

Disregarding the jank, it seems like this setup would allow for a bit of closer play to the screen.
That said, even the current solutions like OpenFIRE and G4IR (and I'm fairly certain Blamcon too) have perspective correction implemented in some form or fashion that provides line-of-sight free aim from anywhere, not just the initial calibrated angle. That's not even considering how expensive getting original arcade gun hardware is - and it seems like you still have a bit of DIY to do anyways, so it doesn't have the benefit of plug'n'playability (or one minute setup) either.
Very neat for those that already own Sega arcade hardware, but probably not something people would want to go out and buy just for this.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments and interest.

The trouble I am having (which I am currently working through, process of elimination), is the accuracy of the sights on the gun to the crosshairs on the screen.
You will see that I had to space the leds unevenly to get the aim useable. But it is still about an inch off x axis left and right.
I have concluded that this is because I am trying to use a sega arcade board with a pc via uhid. The sega boards were never designed to work with pc. So the raw data coming out of the board is not giving me a good accurate signal on the windows game controller software.
I have now started looking at third party controller calibration software such as controlmyjoystick and gremlin.
I hope to improve the aim using curves and what ever other tools are available.
The problem I have when I set the leds evenly spaced (which is what I have reverted back to now), is the cursor (crosshairs) on screen lag behind, by an inch, where I am actually aiming the gun. So I don’t know if curves will fix this.
I am hoping gun4ir #JayBee can please be of some assistance. Maybe his software can help
I will start another thread on this because it is a specific topic, and hopefully it can be solved!

I'm not exactly sure how his software could help, given it's based around a different microcontroller and board architecture entirely, plus it's reliant on its own particular IR layout and camera to use with it. Being closed source doesn't make things any easier either.

I'd say you could try with OpenFIRE, but much of that is also built around the same camera and two specific 4IR layouts. So I don't know how helpful that is going to be on proprietary Sega hardware that we don't have access to, let alone any source code to reference for it.

For my money, you might be on an uphill battle with this one.  :)
