HELP! My monitor is FRIED
« on: March 05, 2004, 10:19:44 am »
If I could smack myself, I would >:(

I installed an "UN-SHIELDED" 6" speakers in my cabinet under the marquee shelf. I didn't even know I had to worry if speakers were shielded or not! Well, to make a long story short, I turned on my monitor and there is a Pulply-Orangy defect on the left side of the monitor. Kinda like there was a magnet in front of that area of the screen. I hit the degause button like 20 times and nothing happened. I left the monitor alone for a couple of weeks and degaused again and still no luck ???

It is my 19" monitor. I will hate to have to toss this thing. Anyone have any ideas PLEASE???

Not sure, should I be posting this type of question in Monitor/Video section?

Thanks,

Garry

Shield or move those speakers right away. Your monitor will be fine. Keep deguassing it. It may take a week for the color distortion to fade, but it will.

Thanks PacManFan for the quick reply. They were moved (almost to the trash bin...) since.  Its already been two weeks. Should I keep degausing (i.e., pressing the software degause button a few times every day until it goes away? Is this a factor of the number of times degaused or length of time? What is a Bob Roberts degause wand? Thanks

This sounds like a job for a degauss wand. Since youseem to not have one you can always haul your monitor to a local TV repair place, they can do it for you.

Corded drill?  Really?  Now that's a neat trick if it works, how about a 24V cordless?

Just buy the manual degauss coil that Bob Roberts sells. It is much more powerful than the internal one on the monitor.
