Suggestion for supergun builders..
« on: March 04, 2004, 10:53:05 am »
Here's a suggestion for supergun builders ...

why not build a supergun into a 3 1/2 or 5 1/4 enclosure?? You know, those 40$ things you can buy anywhere that converts your hard drive or CD/DVD drive into an external USB2 or Firewire connectable device!

The great thing about these enclosures is:

- they look cool - otherwise no one will want to buy it
- it has a build in full functioning power supply (outputting all the required power!)
- it has a build in fan - to keep all the circuits nice and cool
- it's cheap!

Let me know what you think...

it doesnt seem like its that hard to build one, especially if you already can build arcade controls, its just an arcade power supply (30-50$) a nice jamma harness or 2 (20-30$) one of those rgb converters (80$) or supposedly you can hack a dreamcast vga box (10-20$)for the rgb conversion (if anyone knows any more about this please pipe in) then connect it to your joystick/control panel or use hand held controllers or whatever, and voila, use the enclosure mentioned above or whatever you desire.

they actually aren't that hard to build, I was pumped to build one until I looked at the cost of a jamma to NTSC convertor $95
http://www.arcadeshop.com/rgb/rgb.htm
and  http://cps2shock.retrogames.com/jamma.html  has an entire thing on creating your own supergun.  I'd still like to make one in the future when I get some arcade boards, but its kinda something if you already have some jamma boards and other boards it'd be very cool to have.
