Change pressed keys..
« on: March 01, 2004, 08:43:55 pm »
Because of the way i mapped out my keys for my arcade controls, i cant play most pc games ( F4 = player1 up etc.. ) And most pc games wont allow me to select that as a control, so i wanna make a program in VB to change the pressed key but i always use timers and there screwed up ( presses the key to many times ) So how else can i check for what key is being pressed , then send the key i want to send.

Thanks,
Nightmare

There are several ways to do it but they are all sloppy and have trouble working on directx enabled games.  There are also a few apps linked at this site that allow permenant key remapping, but you'd have to get used to that and it might be tricky.(Remaps all keyboards, not just the one you hacked.)

Your best bet is to suck it up and wire your controls the correct way.

Try this:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22060,00.asp

You can turn it on and off easily, via the system tray.  It's pretty straight forward, and allows you to save various key mappings into loadable files.

Granted it won't be pretty (You can't do much with a frontend, unless you write hooks and manually operate the remapper, in which case I think writing a remapper itself would be easier), but it'll do what you need it to for now.
