Question about Individual Rom CFG files...
« on: March 01, 2004, 09:29:38 am »
So, using Mamewah, I started Robotron and set up the player 2 Joy to be the firing joystick.

Well I get out, and back in and I have to reset those settings.  Should this not save in an individual cfg file, or is there something else I should do?

Did you check that a robotron.cfg file was created in mame\cfg folder?
Is the cfg folder set in mame.ini like
cfg_directory           cfg

Does it only happen to Robotron or other games as well?

make sure you are not pausing the gaming when you use  mame to edit the button config's.  I did this in MK and it took me about six trys before I figured out you can't have mame paused when changing the controls.  And also when you upgrade mame and the roms later on it will reset the buttons.

You guys need to read the directions for the ctrlr files in Mame.  These will totally solve all your problems regarding this.

yeah cfg files are lame and unreliable.  Ctrlr files always work well because they are external and can't be altered accidentally by mame.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but i'm having issues with my video settings.  I'm running Mala with Mame and running it on a cocktail cabinet.  I'm able to go into Video Settings and change the screen to Cocktail, but the setting automatically removes itself every 3rd time.  So for example I say to cocktail, return to game and play.  I exit out normally and go back into the game and its still in cocktail.  When I exit out normally again, the game boots and the video setting resets back to the standard horizontal setting.  Anyone know what I can do?  I copied and pasted the cocktail command in the CFG file and hit save, and everytime it shows it in there correctly, when I go in the third time and its reset, the CFG file also deletes the code.  I don't get it!

I suggest asking at MAMEWorld. It might be a bug.
