just broke my sync on my new WG monitor?
« on: February 28, 2004, 03:19:04 pm »
hi all, need some advice.

I've got a new (3months) old WGE1972-H0GS39L and was just starting to work on some new video modes with advanceCAB's VBEV utility and the monitor suddenly lost all sync and just shows jagged lines all over the screen.  Disconnecting and re-connecting the  -vsync and -hsync signals from the monitor make no difference whatsoever; it's as if the sync signals aren't getting to the monitor anymore.

Now I know that messing with weird frequencies can damage your monitor, but I'd figured that I could at least get past the opening screen on vbev before I'd blow anything up!  (I didn't even get a chance to press a key in the vbev utility before this happened!)

I also figured that damage would only occur if I put it in a bad mode and left it that way for hours at a time, but I guess damage can be instantaneous.  My PC monitor has put up with WAY more abuse than this WG has without breaking.  Are these things really that fragile?

Power cycling the monitor hasn't helped, my video cable is fine, so I know the signals are getting from the video card to the monitor.

Any ideas on what I blew up?  The monitor made no high pitched whines, no snaps, no warning that I was treading on thin ice.  I dont think I'm skilled enough to diagnose or repair this myself, so I'm not sure what my next step should be. Unfortunately I don't have any other machines that I can plug into this monitor to test it with.

ugh.

ok, I think I'm going to call my machine "Christine" from now on.

After powered off and unplugged overnight, I try it out again this morning and it came up perfectly.  Whatever I did has flushed itself out.

I still don't know if I have some bad hardware that should be looked at, or if I should just assume that if I "break" it again, I'll just take some time off.  oh well, at least I can continue on...

thanks for reading.
