Older version of Groovy Mame
« on: January 30, 2022, 04:29:59 pm »
Is there a possibility of obtaining an older version of Groovy Mame, specifically 0.139? I ask because every other version has issues with killer instinct audio. I'm doing a KI build and would like to find an older stable version if at all possible. Even the newer versions have audio stutter.. 🙁

Thanks in advance.

How do you know it's not just a problem on your end?

I've tried all the different Groovy Mame versions I could try and the result is always the same. Audio stutter on the main and vs menu.. Version 0.139 (regular mame) has no issues. This is well known and documented.

Not a lot of support on this it seems, so I did my own trouble shooting and came away with this fix, at least for me.

Running the game on a version of MAME UI (called Arcade 64)  (0.223) which I have the game CHD and Zip files for, the sound issues are pretty much gone with 1 small hick up at the demo screen, so I installed Groovy Mame 0.223 and replaced the Mame.exe with my MameUI64 but renamed it Mame.exe. The result is there is no audio stuttering aside from the one small hick up mentioned above.

This may not be the correct way to do this, but it worked and it may help others as well. If anyone needs the UI64 version, I can gladly provide a link to my Google Drive. I swear by this version. It has been the most stable and trouble free version I've been using for a while now.

Thanks.

So my fix did not work after all as obviously there is no switch res on regular mame and there fore the screen shakes a lot. I tried Mame. 0.150 and the game plays perfect with no audio stutter, however the oldest version of Groovy Mame I was able to find was 0.152. I suppose there is no older versions floating around somewhere?

yes there is still a place: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,120454.0.html   http://code.google.com/p/groovyarcade/downloads/list
- to work for me I had to change the video to d3d in mame.ini

- for the specific case of Killer Instinct the best versions of these from the link for me are 0.145 / 0.146 ; there is no stutter on the VS screen, but I noticed another difference, a delay to start the sound on the "enter your initials" screen, but nothing that gets in the way. Actually I don't know if the original arcade board is also like that

- other point; the version that I actually use to play on my CRT is mame64 0.139, just set the video to 2560x240 or 320x240 and disable the filters, enable v-sync in kinst.ini, it will be something very close to groovymame, of course you will be missing the frame delay option and some other improvements.

- another point; in recent versions of mame/groovymame if I'm not mistaken from 0.236 onwards, Killer Instinct had a modification, now it's no longer 320x240@60hz but 320x240@58,944hz, I didn't see anything explaining this change, but I imagine they're looking for more fidelity from the real arcade board.
