I used to have a really cool job - I was a trading clerk on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, right in the middle of the crazyness you see on TV.

I have since moved into IT, and am now a Service Delivery Manager.  Somewhat boring by comparison.....

Motion designer/animator for a major movie studio.  None of the cool stuff like special effects though...mostly just moving text around in neat ways.  Not as great as it sounds.

Between blowing stuff up and melting holes in my shirts I am working on my analytical chemistry PhD.  I decided that 21 years of schooling wasn't enough.

I'm a CTO for a legacy software company. We've built an automated engine that translates legacy source code to .NET and Java.

Kinda like Mame (in a way), we preserve whats good about the past.....

VFX for TV commercials. All 2D stuff. Painting, cloning, compositing, plus design and title animation stuff.

Ironically enough, a few months back an agency my company was doing some commercial work for asked if I could create an animation that would look like a late 80's early 90's videogame for a Round Table Pizza spot. I was competing for the job against a high end commercial animation studio. Thanks to Mame I was able to immediately reference the examples they tossed out. Following comments like "kind of a Paperboy feel," or "more of a Narc-like scrolling thing" I was able to pull games up and play them as I was on conference calls discussing them. My company got the job awarded after turning around 3 spec animations before the other studio could even post stills. So Mame has a definite professional application as well.

Here are some stills.

Hands down the most fun I have ever had at work!

My current position is as a project engineer for a material handling company.  I primarily work in automotive systems, but on occasion I assist our airport and small product sales divisions.

Mostly I design and layout automotive conveyor systems.  So far my largest responsibilities was as lead mechanical engineer on our $50M paint shop system for the Jeep Liberty and our $38M GM Trailblazer/Envoy assembly system.  These are the types of systems I typically design:

Probably not the most exciting job in the world, but I sure have a lot fun!  :)

Currently I am self employed as a lumber wholesaler/broker. It isn't a glorious or particularly "cool" job but I enjoy it and it pays the bills. I am a woodworker so this somewhat ties into my job as well.
Prior to doing this I was a firefighter for the state of California. We mostly dealt with wildland fires but also structure fires, medical aids, traffic collisions, etc. That job was far more exciting, but I really enjoy the flexibility of working for myself.
