Giant arc from ? to k7000 chassis (with video)
« on: July 15, 2021, 08:33:16 pm »
So quite a few years ago I bought a massive rebuild kit for my k7000, it included damn near every part including fly back.
After rebuild, machine got minimal use, sat for years until I recently decided to get it running again on new software.
Everything was fine until today. I’d hear an occasional tick/arc sound, monitor would sort of jump or move every time I heard the noise. I tried looking behind with monitor on to see if I could spot the issue but I couldn’t pinpoint what was happening, until now.
Suddenly it went from the occasional tick to full blown OH CRAP PULL THE POWER CORD.

I plugged it back in just so that I could take this video and see what was going on.

Can anyone make out where it’s coming from or what problem might be? Looks like it’s arcing from behind fly back to the chassis.

Thanks

Looks like the flyback has gone bad. Likely has a pinhole in it. Do you remember who you bought it from?

Eeeeeek!

I always wondered how exactly that cage served its purpose in regard to being a safety measure.

Your video illustrates that pretty clearly!

Glad you didn't get blasted and appreciate you sharing the video.

And as always thanks Ken for sharing monitor wisdom.
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions Ken.
The parts were all purchased from arcadecup in 2016.

Is there a better place to order flybacks from?

Thanks

Purchase your flyback and other parts here:

He stands behind all his flybacks.

Yeah. What Ken said. And if you want to rebuild it, I have a video that may help.

Current collection - 28 cabs, 4 pins. (32 machines and not enough room)

Man the best(worst?) I've ever gotten is the little ticking arc that you maybe see for a microsecond. That's a really impressive arc!

Nice arc, but I don't know what depresses me more... that I can't save it to my favorites because it's marked as made for kids, and YouTube doesn't allow adding vids to favorites that are marked that way, or that YouTube forced me to watch a 5 second ad for a 6 second video clip. Lol!

Fix that thing before ya fry some small rodent!

I don't know if there is an iphone equivalent, but I use YouTube Vanced for Android. YouTube with no ads.

I'll check it out. Hopefully it's not one of those apps that needs permissions like:
1. Permission to access your contacts (Why?)
2. Permission to access your camera (To take pics of you in the bathroom?)
3. Permission to access your significant other (Uh...)

Just kidding... maybe.
