Begging pays off.
« on: February 25, 2004, 12:45:15 pm »
I just got a phone call from a business here in Minnesota asking me if I wanted a free cabinet. This is TWO YEARS after I went in and asked them if they had any "junkers." It is originally a Bally Sente Mini-Golf and the only thing that he said was wrong with it is that "the monitor doesn't work".

My day has been made.

Sometimes begging pays off.

Like a journalist, I must refuse to release my sources.

Just kidding. It is edited cuz Paige and Groove told me to.

They usually deal with pins and jukes, but they get an occasional video in. It is about fifteen miles from my house. They have it set aside for me- I am so excited! I forgot to ask what kind of shape it is in and what else comes with it besides the monitor, but I will take it no matter what. There is always someone looking for a MAME cabinet somewhere. If it IS crap, I will at least get a free chassis and other parts.

Dude, you shouldn't have posted the contact information for the place until AFTER you picked up your cabinet.

#1, someone could just show up and get it instead of you.

#2. Several dozen BYOAC members could hound them between now and when you pick up your cab, and they might end up being all mad and stuff.

I suggest a moderator zap the info for the time being, he can always repost it later, hate to see him ruin his own deal.

Thanks for your concern, but it is already set aside for me. I edited it "just in case" though. I have already had a Satan's Hollow game sold out from under me recently. I don't need to see a repeat of that.

And if it IS sold out from under me, a new deal will come along eventually. It always does. Then I will find the cretin who stole my machine and kneecap him. Hah.

Well,  I just called them to make sure they wouldn't give it away to anyone but me, and I am going to go pick it up this evening.

I forgot the cardinal rule of this hobby-- despite the general friendliness of THIS forum, this hobby (video game collecting) and business is packed full of rats and thieves. I am not implying that about anyone around here in the least, but I have dealt with so much human garbage while in the business and as a hobbiest that I have to make sure ---my bottom--- is covered at all times.

I hate being a cynic..

Poonga- I'll repost the contact info back on this thread tonight.

Okay, here is what I am looking at-

I have another converted Pac Man cab! Yay! This makes THREE that I have had pass through my hallowed halls. BUT!

It looks like a conversion kit that was DESIGNED to be made from a Pac cab. The CP is a form-fitting metal and the bezel is perfect.

It is also very clean on the inside and it is complete-- and I mean COMPLETE. It has a power supply, monitor (non-functional), game boards, trackball (small Centepede sized), four volcano buttons, manual, and locks and keys. Yowza. All for free, free, free.

They laughed and asked if I wanted a Final Lap they had in the back as well. I said YES YES YES and I put down a little money as a retainer. The money is for the switching power supplies it has in the back (it has two). He said I could take it without the power supplies, but I figured if I paid him fifty dollars, it would also serve as a retainer.

Happy times...
