PC games on an arcade machine ? (NFL BLITZ!)
« on: February 24, 2004, 11:15:16 pm »
I was cleaning out the basement, when I found the original PC version of NFL blitz.

I right away installed in on my arcade machine, and was surprised to see that using DirectX video acceleration, one can select arcade resolutions on the ArcadeVGA!

So I selected 368x240 and proceeded to play.  Yes, the text was a tad garbled, but the actual game play was smooth as butter and looked PERFECT!

NFL Blitz allows you to remap the control keys (to be the same as the assigned joystick buttons!) but has anyone figured out:

- How to select "Y" when you press ESC to exit the game?
- How to start the game without the launcher (i.e. direct preset audio/video) ??

The speed and perfection is so much better than the MAME version!

Any other PC arcade ports worth their salt that I should try out?

If you have a fast computer.  Otherwise if you are like me and have a PIII 500 the PC port is just as good :)

Wow, great minds think alike.  I installed Virtua Tennis (best 4p game of all time), but it will only let me map 1 player to the keyboard.  Other players it forces you to choose a gamepad, and if you have no gamepad hooked up, it grays out the 2p, 3p, and 4p options.  Has anyone found a way to map all 4 to keyboard inputs?

Someone created a program that maps keyboard keys to joystick buttons.  Using this, you can set the keys for all 4 players.  Get it here:

I heard that the version of PPJoyKey that I previously posted did not work with Virtua Tennis.

I think that this one will.

Sorry about that confusion.

How does this work exactly?  I loaded the PPJoyKey program and chaged/saved the ini file.  What do I do next?  Where do I put the ini file I created with PPJoyKey?

Thanks for any help on this!

I gotta know...

What kinda machine you have that runs Blitz nice and smooth?

It's slower than hell on my Athlon XP 2000.

Oh, you are talking about blitz in mame.  I run the PC version, runs just like the arcade version.

I have a PIII 500 with 256megs of ram running an ATI128.
