  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi All,

I'm trying to set up GroovyArcade on my NNC but I'm not having much luck.

I'm using a J-PAC with an Zotac H55 motherboard (no UEFI option) and a Sapphire HD6450 connected via VGA. When I boot from the latest groovyarcade-2021.01-x86_64 iso i get the install menu come up fine but as soon as I choose 15khz and it begins the install the monitor goes out of sync, comes up with No Signal on the monitor, and I lose the sync lights on the J-PAC. I've tried with the J-PAC jumper on 15 and 31, just 15 and none at all with the same result.

I've also tried the monitor straight into the HD6450, without the J-PAC, with the same result.

I'm I missing a step? Is the motherboard too old (it's 2010)?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,
George

Hi

Choose 15 or 25 at the very first boot screen, not 31. The same after screen detection, booting at 31kHz will be foxed in the next iso.

You can set 31kHz back once you've installed to hdd

Thanks for the reply.I’ve tried 15 and 31 from the boot screen and lose sync as soon as the install starts and I assume it switches to whichever frequency I chose.

Don't use 31 yet, 15 should work.

I used to have that MB years ago but it died one day ... anyway : do you ever get some sound ? At some point, GA speaks to you telling its gonna test video outputs.

To know if you're on legacy bios boot : the boot screen where you choose the H frequency is blue with the GA logo and white font. On UEFI, it looks like a good old bios screen with black background and just light grey text.

Thanks for the replies Substring, still no joy.

I get the blue screen with white font.

On install I do hear the sound. It checks DVI on card 0, no monitor detected. Then says checking VGA1 on card 0, no monitor detected, forcing analogue connection. At that point the "sync in" light goes orange on the J-Pac but then goes out again after the 2 second wait, no green sycn on the J-Pac. That is the only speech.

Update: I've got it to work if I remove the J-Pac and plug the monitor straight into the 6450. I assumed this didn't work before as it showed the No Signal message on screen but I waited and it cleared and has installed.
Bit weird why it doesn't work through the J-Pac?

Check the jumpers, maybe you're on 25 only

Also, when the JPAC is not syncing, try unplugging it and plugging it again, from the usb connection.

Try putting jumpers on 15 & 31 as this is the default

Also, when the JPAC is not syncing, try unplugging it and plugging it again, from the usb connection.

That worked! How strange! Now installed it works fine with the J-Pac.

One question though: is there a way of forcing AttractMode into 480p as I can't find the option? If I set up my monitor as Tri-Sync is won't let me change the resolutions and if I say it's 15khz I don't get the 480p option.
I just find the flicker of 640x480i a bit annoying, especially when my monitor can display 640x480p

You need to wait for the next iso or edit boot options manually.
