Mamewah question
« on: February 24, 2004, 01:57:59 am »
Okay, I've downloaded all of these screenshots from screenshotsarchive.com, but I can't use them in mamewah because the file names are not exactly the same.

For example, it is "10 yard fight" in my rom folder, but "10 yard fight(U) on the screenshot.  Is there no way to match these up without taking out the (U)

If not, is there another site that has downloads for all of the console screenshots.

Thanks

stuzza

Use the Goodtools (A rom renaming and sorting program) to rename your rom set to match the screenshots.  The screenshots are all named in that format for this very reason.

You'll need GoodNES for your NES roms, GoodSNES for SNES etc...  I recommend using the GoodWindows GUI as it is easier than typing dos commands.

see here: http://www.retrogames.com/cowering.html for more info on goodtools.

Okay, after changing all of the names of the roms only a couple of the screenshots work.  The difference is that using the goodtools program usually adds a [o1] at the end of the rom after the (U).

The snapshots from screenshotarchive.com only have the (u) and then the extension.

Also, now when the file names show up in mamewah, they have their full names like 10-Yard Fight (J) [o2].nes

Any way to fix both of these problems.

Thanks,
Jonny

The [o1] indicates that your rom is an "overdump" or a baddump and that there is probably a better version you should be using.

The screenshots at my site were named compared to the main *best* set only for various countries.  ie. if you use Goodtools and use the "rename" and "dirs" command it will rename all your roms and sort them into country codes as well as bad dumps etc...  The screenshots should match the roms that are left in the USA or Europe directories after doing so.  Hence why on the site the zip files are organised into sets (for most consoles).

Most full console sets contain literally thousands of roms with hundreds of duplicates, a lot of which are just stupid bad dumps of the same rom.  It would be pointless to create screenshots for all of these extra versions.  You'll find most people just use a single set on their cab - normally the full USA or Europe sets or a combination of the two.  This cuts down the list to around 700 or so per console.
