Where to download CRT Emudriver
« on: February 03, 2021, 06:33:09 pm »
I booted up my old test PC for the first time in 6 years, hoping to test out Groovymame 0.228 as well as try out my new Greeantz component converter but I seem to be unable to find where CRT_Emudriver is hosted. The link in Calamity's signature seems to be out of date.

Also, what version should I be running for an ATI 4600 Series card? I'm currently running version 8.970.100.7000 from 2/17/2013 and I assume that's way out of date.

I've tested GreenAntz with a HD4650 and it definitely works - but because it is an older card getting CRTEMU setup with Windows 7 was a pain because of the EDID stuff. You really need to have a VGA friendly monitor, a DVI-VGA dongle and follow Calamity's guide to the letter. And unfortunately the geedorah site is down  :hissy:

... and I can't even remember which version to install ottomh

I have a VGA monitor and a DVI-VGA dongle. I've set this all up before, it's just been a number of years now and I wanted to try out the current Groovymame to see if it's worth moving into my cabinet.

for a HD4650 Win 7+ I think you need the "legacy" CRT-emulator driver built for catalyst 12.6?

Maybe Calamity can clarify

Thanks for the link to the drivers. One more question, where is this guide?

Yeah, we really need that for the HD4XXX series because they are fussy about letting go of your VGA+ monitor. IIRC, after installing drivers as usual (without super resolutions!!) and probably a reboot - You need the DVI-VGA dongle to CRT and VGA to VGA/LCD screen. Go display settings. After clicking "Identify" and then making CRT your primary/only monitor, everything goes blank, then physically swap your CRT VGA cable from video DVI head to VGA head *fast* at the critical moment, then you have to click on "keep" or "OK". I am working from memory and it is very easy to get it wrong  :banghead:

Yeah probably the best advice is not using pre-HD5000 cards on Windows 7-10. I'm afraid I don't have a copy of the guide, let's wait until its online again, since I can't remember the details either.

Hopefully it's just a matter of a few hours now. If I recall, it's pretty much as Zebidee says, though.

Well, it looks like Eiusdemmodi is back online but I don't have permission to view anything.

I suppose I could upgrade this card, will a Radeon 5000 series card make this a lot easier?

yay \o/ nearly there then.

I think anything HD5000+ will be easier.

Running HD4650 in my cab at the moment with an ancient P4 3.2HGhz XP64 machine, setup for Win7 too painful and I couldn't find my dongle at the time (found it since yay, but moved on).

Another comment about the HD4650, or at least mine, is that it runs pretty warm. Stable temperature but quite warm. This can be an issue for me running cabs in a tropical climate as it can get pretty hot in there, especially as that P4 3.2ghz itself runs pretty warm too. So I'm going to have to change it all before summer hits.

By contrast, my HD6450 cards are much smaller and run much cooler, while also having better stats overall. What you'd probably expect from newer tech, but still fairly cheap these days. Also setup in Win7 is a breeze.

Thanks Zebidee,

I went ahead an ordered an HD6450 and some extra sticks of ram for this old beast. So I guess I'll just continue this next week when those things arrive. I'll probably work on moving the windows install over to one of my old SATA SSDs in the mean time. I had forgotten how annoying the churn on old 5400 RPM hard drives can be.
