How many amperes in 4 Ds
« on: February 22, 2004, 06:57:47 am »
I want to hook up an electronic device, that normally runs on 4 D cell bateries, to power outlet.  What specificly shoul I look for when I go look for transformer (is that what ya call em?)?  I have a 6v 100ma that came from a gameboy (the original one) and it doesn't provide enough power.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

You'd probably want a wall adapter that can provide 6 volts DC at a minimum of 1 ampere.

I don't think you'll need 1 Amp....

most transformers... those AC -> DC ones are like
300mA or so....

have you tried to hook it up with a 6V 300mA transformer ??
ormaybe a 7.5V 300mA transformer ??

next step up should be around 800mA.....

what kind of equipment is that ??
some stuffs are more sensitive to different voltage / different amp... easier to burn out if given too much power....

Another Brilliant mind ruined by education....  :p

The amperage rating on a transformer is the maxium current it can safely draw. If your equipment needs more current, it will draw it anyway causing your power transformer to overheat or burn up.

:P It's a baby swing lol, I'm not thinking it's all that sensative so I'll just see if I can find something in the 800ma - 1a range, that should do it.

Just don't turbo charge that swing or things could get really ugly!   ;D
