Bang the (track)ball - Playing Golden Tee
« on: February 22, 2004, 12:56:05 am »
Just seeing...it appears every single person in the world plays Golden Tee the same....bang the heck out of the t-ball.  Is this the most common, is there a better way?  And how did this get started?  Just struck me as odd.

Right up my alley!

I just came from Bill Bateman's here in Towson Maryland where I played a full round of the Tee.

I think it has been proven that putting everything you have into your swing does make the ball go farther.
Some people use no backswing but if you do you will have better results.

They make a reinforcing plate to back up the trackball because of the popularity of this technique.

Being the golden tee pro that I am here's my way.
Roll the ball towards you for the backspin. Now place both thumbs on the trackball there the ball and panel meet and using both thumbs flick the ball forward the ball will spin just as fast if not faster than those ball bangers.

uh yeah!  its the coolest!  well if you like golf that is.  if youve ever played tiger woods 2003 or 2004 and liked it...well imagine the swing mechanics, but you physically determine how far and straight you hit it by hitting the trackball.  i know tiger woods has those mechanics somewhat, but the trackball gives it that extra physical feel.

I used to play golden tee 2 days (or more) a week for about a year (GT 2002 and 2003)..  For ME, I use my thumbs (as described above) for drives, and my palm for putts (Just the way I learned).

A TON of people do the 'banging' the trackball thing.. but the "GOOD" ones don't  bang down on the trackball..

The point is to get as much forward motion on the trackball while minimizing the downward motion.  Really good players can bring their hands all the way back and barely skim the trackball on the way forward and get incredible drives.. however many of them slam their palms into the glass -- I think it's plexi tho, thank god :-D

Edgedamage, I don't play often, but when I do, I use the exact same technique you refer to, and my buddies always razz me, even though our drives are pretty much the same!

Now, by "pretty much the same" I mean that I outdrive them once in a while, they outdrive me once in a while, but the thing I notice the MOST is that they slice or hook more often than me!

The reason I'm asking this is that I'm contemplating designing my CP so that they HAVE to use that technique, seeing as how I'M going to be the one fixing ANYTHING that goes wrong with it, and I wanted to know if this is as widespread as it seems to be in the bar leagues.  I'm wondering if I can be the Butch Harmon of Golden Tee!  ;D

I play TONS of Hot Shots Golf for PS2 and Tiger once in a while on the PC, so I figured I'll want some sweet golfing action for my cab.
