MAME32 won't save rom path?

I'm using mame32v67b and every time I open it the rom path has not been saved. What am I doing wrong? It's getting to be a pain specifying the rom path again every time I want to play.

I take it you have made sure the ini file is not read only? Is it saving other settings?
