My first pi project, made for my brother who lives many states away.
Retropie with Emulation Station and mame2003. They seem to work well together, especially with limited controls. No need for any admin buttons, and 'kiosk' mode simplifies user options even further. It was a little bit of a learning curve to navigate the settings for everything. Screen rotation and aspect ratios specifically, since there is a variety of vertical and horizontal games.
I've only had one router bit for years (a slot cutter) but did finally buy a flush bit. Why didn't I do this years ago?! The flush bit was bought to make identical sides from the pattern, but was also perfect to cut the plexi.
The sides are 3/4" mdf, painted with Rustoleum enamel black. The monitor mount is made from a very lightweight laminated particle wood from a broken bed frame, and the top and speaker panel are 1/4" pressboard, so it's pretty light overall. Customized the cp artwork (screwed up the grenade placement
