15" 4:3 LCD/LED for Cocktail cab?
« on: August 22, 2020, 11:42:19 am »
I had an old 15" Dell (I think) LCD laying around, and for kicks I thought I'd try to swap it into an Asteroids cocktail that I have with a bad monitor (using a Raspberry PI to emulate).  I quickly ran into a viewing angle issue, and now I'm on the hunt for a monitor.  I'm looking for a 15", 4:3 ratio, as that fits just about perfectly.  I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on it, either, so used is probably preferable.  Before I started searching, I figured I'd poll the experts and see if anyone has any specific recommendations.

Asteroids on a Pi and lcd will look like crap no matter what you do, hence no one replied before. I would strongly urge you to get the original setup fixed.

17 inch monitors have been made more recently, so try to find one of those of those with an IPS or PVA panel if you have to.

Asteroids is one of the best looking vector games. When tuned correctly the laser shots are awesome. Either fix the CRT or pay someone to fix it.
