crt emudriver no progressive resolutions
« on: August 12, 2020, 05:58:16 am »
Hey guys I tried not to ask for help but I'm stumped.  I am setting up groovy mame on a sanwa pfx arcade monitor and the only resolutions that work are interlaced. Progressive resolutions either have no signal or display scrambled garbage on the screen accompanied with harsh squeal.
Here is what I have done so far
    •    installed AMD Radeon 3450 video card with vga hdmi & dvi out
    •    installed crt emudriver beta 15 catalyst 12.6
      •    Installed groovy mame modified Ini for vertical orientation
      •    installed generic 15khz, arcade 15khz and 15/31khz modes; all produce the same result
      •    Test arcade OSD resolutions; progressive resolutions dont work. The sync ok light goes out on the j-pac  and the message no signal is displayed on the screen or  there is a garbled screen and a high pitched squeal.

When I install the modes on display 1 and swap the vga cable to the j-pac everything appears to work as expected.  I run groovy mame  select a game and then the display disappears, the sync ok light on the j-pac goes out and the screen says there is no signal. When I exit the game by pressing escape the display and sync light come back.

When I install the modes on display 2 with my pc monitor connected to the video card via hdmi and the j-pac connected to the video card via vga the results differ slightly. I disconnect the hdmi and after a few seconds the arcade moniter syncs and displays an interlaced desktop image.  If i run groovymame  as the administrator the It opens normally but when I select a game the arcade monitor starts to squeal and the screen loses sync.  If dont run groovymame as an administrator I get an ATI legacy error  but games run.  All the games run in something like 500X844i resolution.

Have not been able to get a signal on the arcade monitor with csync enabled

Changed the polarities in the 15k mode and that resulted in a highly distorted desktop

The j-pac only works with both the 15k and 31k jumper in place or just the 31k jumper.  With all jumpers removed there is no signal however the jpac lights indicate the sync is ok. With just the 15k jumper the the jpac indicates it is recieving sync but the green sync ok led never illuminates.

Thanks for the help.

Well It looks like the monitor is just really picky about the sync.  I will have to read up on monitor presets and vmm maker more but changing the monitors horizontal sync numbers to the ones I linked in the manual fixed the problem.  320X240 games play as 640X240, kinda curious why that is but Im not gonna worry about it.  Also when I change the orientation of the desktop changes the resolution the games will play in...learned that the hard way.
