catver in mamewah
« on: February 19, 2004, 02:07:46 pm »
Sorry to bring this topic up again, but I'm still having a little difficulty.

From the mamewah faq:
Q: How do I get MAMEWAH to show game category / genre info?

A: Use the CatVer.INI file. Set the 'CatVer Filename' from within 'Emulator Settings' > 'List Generation Settings'. Then refresh the games list.

1) Would this refresh of the games list automatically create custom lists and/or sort them or what should I be expecting?

I can't find the "CatVer Filename" option in Emulator Settings (or anywhere else).  I used the setup tool and added the catver.ini in there, but it doesn't do anything for me.  I can however create custom lists and filter them by category, so I assume mamewah can see the catver file?

2) Am I missing something in my mamewah setup that would prevent me from seeing the 'CatVer Filename' in my emulator settings?

Thanks for any help!

The FAQ is somewhat outdated (my fault) so it has changed slightly...the 'CatVer Filename' option has actually been removed.  All you need do is place catver.ini in your MAME root folder.  When you refresh the list the catver info will be available.

In answer to your Q's:

1) No.  All you should expect is to be able to see/use the categories to filter on in the 'Generate Custom List using Filters' menu.  Also, in the default layout, the current games category is displayed in the bottom right.

2) No, explained above.

You say you can filter by category, so really you have it working! :)

What List Generation Method are you using?  MAMEWAH will not let you into the filters menu, if it doesn't have anything to filter on.  Make sure you use a listinfo List Gen. Method (MAME v0.83 & previous), or a DAT File one.
