MAME support for dual Actlabs lightguns on a VGA monitor
« on: June 05, 2020, 03:03:03 pm »
Hi there,

I am looking into building an arcade cabinet using a NEC XM37 VGA monitor which will be connected to a PC running MAME. I was wondering if it is possible to play Lightgun games using the Actlabs Lightgun system and more importantly if it is possible to use two guns at the same time? Also: I am wondering if there will be any issues with crosshairs that can not be removed. I am looking for the highest accuracy and most authentic feel (like everyone else I guess). Other suggestions are welcome of course! (However, I have no interest in IR based solutions (accuracy) or the Sinden lightgun (white border)).

In regard to the Sinden Lightgun: has anyone tried using an IR led frame around the monitor? I assume the camera in the Sinden Lightgun will be able to pick up IR. In that case it could use the IR frame as a reference, forgoing the need for the white border.

Kind regards,

Tom
