WG 9200 27" - Screen edges wavering/contracting

I've got a fairly new Wells Gardner 9200 27" RGB, which is having an issue of the edges of the screen slightly wavering/contracting expanding. This will happen for awhile, and then revert back to a solid stable state. Also, when the screen does the flicker/wavering thing, the brightness seems to slightly alter as well, by a small margin.

I'm running the monitor at 640 X 480, and all of my games are locked at a refresh rate of 50 Mhz, and locked at a resolution of 640 X 480. Does this issue sound familiar to anybody?

I did have a power outage a while ago, but I have the monitor plugged into two pretty decent surge protectors.

Any input or advice would be greatly appreicated. Thanks much!

hopefully, it's an easily fixable/troubleshot issue. ^_^

If it stops, then I'm not sure what it could be besides a component in your T.V. causing it until it warms up.  If it was constant, I would say you were getting some kind of electrical interference like a fan or a florescent light.

I'm seeing a similar issue with mine (27" WG D9200) although I would say the brightness fluctuation is a little worse than the edge contractions.

Even without signal applied the brightness 'pulsing' is clearly apparent.  It's apparently random, but nearly continuous with or without signal, and regardless of resolution.  I haven't let it run too long like this (to see if it goes away after really heating up, etc.)  This is an all-of-a-sudden type thing - was working fine and then this started.  Monitor is about 18 months old but has very little use (maybe 100 hours).

It seems to me like some component (CAP?) has failed and my main concern is the cost of repair exceeding or getting too close to the price of replacement.  I've already decided that the hassle of removing it from the cabinet and taking it somewhere for repair is probably out of the question.  It was a 3-man job to install it and I no longer have the packing materials.  I'm considering having a tech come out to the house to look at it but I suspect it will be tough to get this resolved without paying $200 or more, and in that case a new one (or different brand?) at $500 starts to look more attractive.

Any thoughts on what this could be or opinions on cost/practicality of someone fixing this in my house?

not an expert on wells gardner but had similar problems with other monitors.
if the picture is changing size and brightness it could be down to a few things,ht smoothing cap,dirty or faulty pot on lopti,faulty lopti,dry joint on chassis,some sort of frequency issue.
if it was me with this fault i would first prove wether it was a bad solder joint by tapping the chassis gently with an insulated object,obviously if you tap the chassis and the fault reacts then a bad solder joint is the fault(or bad plug connection).
if still no joy try tweeking your adjustment pots, could be just a tarnished connection in one.
if that dont help then try a different gameboard to prove your signal from the said board is correct(is your cab pc based or arcade board).
if your screen brightness jumps with no signal then you can pretty much discount the game board.
but try this stuff first before calling in an service engineer,sometimes the most strange faults are the easiest to resolve.happy hunting amigo

thanks for the advice grantspain - i spotted a sub-brightness POT and tweaked it a bit to resuce the SB, its actually hidden the brightness fluctuations by darkeneing the pic, which actually looks quite good without much bright anyway.  so, in effect, half of my problem is gone.  the wavering/pusling is still present, and i'm not sure i'll be able to fix that.. tapping the chassis didn't produce any response.  its actually at a point that it's usable as-is.  i'd rather not unbolt it or call a tech in for the slight pulse it has.  if it gets worse then i will have to do something about it.

Contact the tech support department (by telephone!) at Wells-Gardner. I remember seeing a service bulletin a while back mentioning some bad electrolytic capacitors failing prematurely causing this problem.
