StarWars Trilogy- force feedback not working (SOLVED)
« on: April 24, 2020, 06:02:48 pm »
Hi

I need help...

Suddenly my force feedback stopped working on my sega starwars deluxe.

BUT strange when i boot the game, it still does it's selftest, moves the stick and no errors are displayed.
If I look at the segment display on what I assumes is the driver board, it just says 8. 8.
I assume that this code just are displayed when the board works? Because I can not find the 8. 8. error code in the manual.

https://www.gamesdatabase.org/Media/SYSTEM/Arcade/Manual/formated/Star_Wars_Trilogy_-_1998_-_Sega.pdf

If I go to the test menu and test the output, Event0 and Even1 is doing nothing. As I recall event0 normal lights up the left red button, and Even1 the right red button.

There is always just a faint red light in the left right button, normal there is only light when I need to press the buttion durring gameplay.

Also if I test the force feed back in the test menu the stick does not move.

SO...

I assume there is no fault on the driver board because I do not get any error codes on the display?

I have checked the fuses all are good.

A small video of the test menu

FIXED!  :applaud:

I have fixed the force feedback issue!

You newer guess what the cause where.....

It where the CPU board!!
I tested the pots as you wrote, they where fine.

I where wondering why I did not get any error on bootup, nither on screen or the motor controller board.
Also that the left lamp always where lid up a bit.
So I where thinking... (It happens sometimes) 😉

Can I be a signal that there is missing, I had movement in bootup selftest, so my wiring, motors, controller board and the tow servo board might work..might...

I for some time ago has purchased some defect model3 step 3 board set's on ebay.. that I am currently working on the video pcb's---

But I had managed to fix one of the cpu boards just by changing the supercap.

So I tried to put in the cpu board that I had fixed.... AND NOW THE force feedback are working!
Also the event0 and event1 is working perfect!.

Now when i had it opened, I changed the two cage fans to some new ones, just to be on the safe side that the cooling is running.
