Command Launcher 6.0 Compatability thread....
« on: February 16, 2004, 08:42:13 pm »
Pretty soon I am going to add a list of the emus known to work with my command line launcher.  As the latest version pretty much makes everything compatable, I wan't to add a list of the known emus it works with and the settings needed to get it to run.  Please if you have a favorite emu, try it and post the settings there.

Nebula:               Exit Mode 5
Nebula Model 2:  Exit Mode 5
Zinc:                    Exit Mode 5
Zsnes:                 Exit Mode 5, Turn on Quotes
Daphne:              Exit Mode 0 or 1
Mame:                 Exit Mode 0 or 1

Please note that all emus exited with mode 5 might suffer from a sound stutter until the emu finishes the exit. This won't harm your system in any way it's just annoying. I might add a feature to kill audio until the exit is complete in the future.

Please if you have some spare time test your favorite emu and see which method works for it.  1 usually works, but if it doesn't go down the list and try each on in order as modes 2 and 3 are preferred over 4 and 5.

I want to make a definative list people.  I'm getting annoyed at the "how do I get xxx game working in xxx emulator" posts.  ;)

Something I forgot to mention.... as Zinc exits with escape by default, mode 0 *should* work.  Unfortunately, due to a glitch in zinc it hangs using the opengl renderer on many systems, even without the wrapper.  This is why I suggest everyone use the wrapper and set it to 5.  The music may be annoying, but it's better than locking up your cabinet.

I understand that this will be fixed upon the final zinc build though so sit tight.

Update #2....

Some console games have "-" marks in their titles even after being converted via goodtools.  Unfortunately this is the default delimeter for the wrappers and can cause issues.  To eliminate the problem simply leave the delimter blank.  This will fix issues with all console roms for all emulators.  Luckily you can't send command line options with most console emus or this would be a bigger issue.

So long story short for console emus leave the delimter option blank.

Man, that covers a LOT of issues... getting close to 100% compatability.  ;)

Quick question.  I was going to set up a command line wrapper for nebula.  Is this necessary since, to my knowledge, there are no special commands needed?  Within a dos prompt I can type 'nebula XX' and the game XX loads just fine.  It also exits with the ESC key back into the dos prompt.  I would think a nebula.cfg file that looks just like a mame.cfg file would work.

If you want to exit it's necessary. :) Upon pressing the escape key nebula prompts you with a menu that you can only navigate using the arrow and enter keys.  (In gui mode 0, you shouldn't use mode 1 in a fe as it displays an ugly windows box when the rom is loading.)

That's the primary function of the wrappers these days.... as a matter of fact only daphne and zinc require string translation, the rest store configuration internally.

I agree.  I do have it set up in GUI Mode 0, and I actually don't mind having to navigate to exit a game, especially since I have my ENTER key mapped to my CP.  I have had a few hick-ups with my I-Pac where I go to insert some more coins to continue a game and it exits.   Haven't really looked into it because it doesn't happen often.

Anyway, I did set up a wrapper for Daphne a while back, but ended up just using a cfg file with some command line options (with your help) that all the games are happy with.  So I thought I could do the same for nebula (not minding the exit sequence).

Also. within a wrapper, is there a way to list a directory of roms that all take the same commands, instead of listing each game individually.  I guess this same question goes for the keypress simulator wrapper 2.0 I'm trying out for my SNES emulator.

I think it is great to have the compatability in DK to allow for all these emulators.  And I hope others are benifiting from all my questions.

Thanks again!
