consolized Neo Geo in San Francisco in need of repair
« on: January 06, 2020, 04:59:44 pm »
I have a consolized MVS Neo Geo from Southtown Homebrew.  It connects to a tv set with Composite and S-Video cables.  Unfortunately, it broke, and I’m wondering if you can refer me to somebody in the San Francisco Bay Area (preferably within San Francisco) who can fix it.

I’m almost sure one of the problems with it is that the battery connection to the motherboard is rusty.  That’s what probably causes the sprites to look distorted.

The other problem is that, from time to time, the games crash and the console goes to the Uni-Bios error message screen.  I don’t know what causes that.  It’s probably a problem with one of the chips.

I have two jobs and I am on vacation from one of my jobs during January.  Therefore, it would be much more convenient for me to take it to the engineer and pick it up after it’s fixed during January 2020.  That would save me shipping costs and time to everyone involved.  That's why I would prefer if the engineer works in San Francisco.

I will get to the engineer’s studio to drop the console and pick it up using public transit.  I will leave the Neo Geo, the power supply, and a controller.

I include a few photographs of the motherboard’s battery, a screen capture with the distorted sprites, and two of the error messages.  Hopefully they will be helpful.

Please feel free to forward this message to a local engineer who would be able to help me.  The engineer would then be able to give me a cost estimate.  I would appreciate your help.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Peace,

Ghaleon

The leaking battery acid is corroding the traces on your poor MVS. I don't know anyone to fix it, but I strongly urge you to snip out that battery RIGHT NOW and clean the residue with vinegar to neutralize the ni-cd juice and prevent making things even worse.
