Any here made a Guncon 1 recoil gun?
« on: November 27, 2019, 03:57:20 pm »
I've been enjoying my Guncon 2 recoil gun mods for a while and now I want to do the same with my official Namco Guncon 1 (or Gcon 45 if you're from Narnia or Europe). I've run into a problem though. The trigger signal from the guncon 1 doesn't provide enough power to trigger my relays.

I use independently powered relay timer triggers like this which take 5v from a micro USB phone charger but even with these, the Gcon 1 trigger won't activate it:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/5V-30V-Delay-Relay-Timer-Module-Trigger-Delay-Switch-DIY-Micro-USB-Module-stable/173463895046?hash=item286340fc06:g:VHMAAOSwhO9bbk~c:sc:USPSFirstClass!10530!US!-1

I tested my relay trigger board with my Guncon 2 guns and with an Apac trigger and it worked fine. Has anyone here managed to create a recoil gun from an official Guncon 1? If so, what did you use to trigger the solenoid or ne555 board?

BTW, interesting (ish) discovery. When I used this adapter to connect my guncon 1 to a PC, with my Apac also connected, Windows 7 recognized the guncon 1 as a 4 axis analog joystick as if it were part of the Apac. I think it might be possible to use the combo for mame.

very interesting that converter is recognized as a pad!

I use 2 gcon 45 in my cabinet using this other conversor:

I use one per lightgun, as it has two slots, one for lightgun other for pad. And it has a switch i put to ps2. So, with topgun driver it is detected as any ps2 lightgun, and I feel the gcon45 more precise than the ps2 guns I tested.

I would like to add rumble to my guns too, but dont know how to do it.

I have one of those EMS sharpshooter adapters too. I've never been able to make it work for anything including it's intended purpose. It didn't help my PC recognize the guncon 1 either but I never thought to try the EMS adapter on a PC with EMS Topgun drivers to use it as a GC2. I guess I never saw the point as there is already Windows drivers to use a Guncon 2 and the Guncon 2 hardware is superior to the original Gcon in accuracy, shot registering and the number of buttons etc.

My interest in using the GC1 with my other adapter on a PC was avoiding the need for custom amateur imperfect drivers. Interesting find on the topgun drivers though. Does it still only work in 480i / 240p? I always assumed that was a hardware speed limitation with the Namco guns.
