LG CE-29Q12IP with GroovyMame
« on: November 11, 2019, 04:42:00 am »
Hello to everyone,

I found an LG CE-29Q12IP with a  29” FLAT screen which has a VGA connector in the back… I wonder if somebody already own this kind of TV and tested it with (GroovyMame) emulation.

I couldn't find more details about VGA connector in the TV manual but I wonder if somebody can help with.

I already own an SONY CRT 29” and I want to know if make sense to try this new LG screen… The questions are:

- Will perform better than SONY?
- Give that this TV has a VGA connector, the “geometry settings” can be adjusted for each resolutions separately?
- Should I stay away and continue with what I already have?

I just want to know because this kind of TV is huge, is heavy and hard to be manipulated but, if this behaves much better than SONY then, I think is a good idea to be replaced with the LG screen.

Thank you!

That kind of TV is a typical european '100Hz' model, and I'd bet that VGA input is a weird connectivity convenience choice not guaranteed to accept actual VGA 640x480p but video/component 480p instead (if the manual says it's a true RGBHV VGA input then I'll be damned)

100Hz set are unable to display true 15Kz signals, everything gets interpolated to 100/120Hz in interlaced form and immediately deinterlaced with a more or less efficient algorithm, comb filter etc. You can't trun that off. Not even progressive scan 480p is pure.

I'd say don't bother, it is undoubtedly useless for Groovy, and probably bad for 480p too.

imo the sony x5 is one of the best out there (tried like 200tvs), good luck having good geomerty and convergence with 29".
