GroovyMame not launching with 480i
« on: June 19, 2019, 10:43:16 pm »
I have got CRT Emudriver up and running and outputting 480i though an AMD 6450 > vga to Component > Sony FS120
I can’t seem to get at the options to ‘block unavailable resolutions ‘ from within the windows graphics settings
I find that programs try to launch in 480p (attractmode and groovymame) so I created a 648x486 resolution as per the advice given and that gets attractmode running but groovymame will not launch. In 480 nothing happens, in 486 I get a switchres error regarding no appropriate resolution available.
Even if no direct advise can someone link me to a guide for the groovymame config file, I’m unclear on the commands, I want to try setting different window sizes for GM.
Thanks

I can get GroovyMame to launch if I use a Win 8 compatibility mode. (I'm using Win10)
Now it is trying to use switchres but the only resolution it will assign is 480i, despite others seemingly loaded.
I've attached the romname.txt file, sorry I did not to this initially

First install the full DirectX 9 redist.

Here's the full offline installer...

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

It should have downloaded this file...

directx_Jun2010_redist.exe

When you run the file, it will ask you where to extract it.  Extract it somewhere with a simple path like C:\dx9redist

Once it extracts, go into that folder and run this file...

DXSETUP.exe

Once you're done with that, are you using CRT Emudriver 2.0 from here?...

http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=295

I think you need - "CRT Emudriver & CRT Tools 2.0 beta 15 (Crimson 16.2.1 non-GCN* cards) for Windows 7/8/10 64-bits"

And did you follow this installation tutorial for super resolutions on a Radeon HD 5000 or higher card?...

That ancient version of GM won't work with your card, update to latest version.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thanks I’ll be trying this stuff out. I was hesitant to switch to the new mame but after looking into it, it’s not so bad to work with.
Question, any windows graphics options  are missing except set resolution, I want to lock unsupported modes like 480p. How do I do this now?

Not sure what you mean. Windows graphic options are still there. Get my full package from google drive (check the pinned thread), it has the correct mame.ini.

Alright! I think I’m in business, loading up SF3 in 240p with some sweet sweet scanlines!!
I did have to launch Groovymame 205 in compatibility mode or it just wouldn’t launch in Win 10

Is there a reason crt emudriver does not create a 224p resolution for me? I run a Sony fs120
It seems like the screen is being stretched vertically for the 224 games.

You can read extensively on it here by people that own virtually the same TV (myself included):

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,159544.0.html

The jist is that 224p and 240p are the same, you have to physically adjust the vertical size in your TV's settings menu to make one or the other fit.  What most people do is either pick 240p or 224p and either have black bars on the top and bottom for 224p when sizing for 240p, or have cutoff on the top and bottom for 240p games when sized for 224p.

Thank you, after playing around in the service menu I am having much better results and the small 8 line black borders are now there on 224p. Very nice  :)
Where do I go to find info on Atom-15? It asks you to point to your gfx bios, do I need a tool to extract this? Can’t seem to find a clear answer and a little nervous about winging this one.
Thanks again for all the help

There's some useful information in these two threads regarding ATIFlash (DOS) and ATIWinflash...
