DFW BYOAC meet at Tornado's 2-28
« on: February 12, 2004, 10:05:55 am »
Hey everybody, after meeting up at the auctions with a couple of BYOACers and talking shop a couple of us have decided to meet up and talk more shop and play some video games without worrying about missing any bids at the auction.  :)

So on Feb 28th 11AM we are gonna meet up at the Chipolte's on Pipeline in Hurst and then head over to Tornado Terry's arcade in Keller shortly after.

Tornado Terry has an arcade that is 9 bucks all you can play, he has pinballs, airhockey, classics and even DDR and newer games.   (Check out the link at the bottom) That will be fun, but he is also very supportive of MAME and has some great stuff in storage.  I got my empty cab from him and some parts too (makes it nice when you don't want to wait for an order from HAPPS).

So hopefully you all can come out and we can talk shop and have a good time.

Chipotle - North East Mall

Hurst, TX 76053

I'll be there.  I'll be sure to play some DDR for Sephroth too.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

I live in the DFW area in Allen.  I've never been to Hurst.  Is that somewhere in between Dallas and Fort Worth.  Also, I'm bummed I missed that last auction but really hope to make the next one.  BTW, when is the next auction?
Thanks

PathDoc,

Hurst is in the "MidCities".  The drive is not that bad...I've got friends and relatives in Allen, Mickinney, and Murphy.  If the George Bush was done it would take you 45mins, but since it's not... it like an hour.

I mapquested it and it was 42 miles from Allen to Chipotle's.  It's a weekend so it'll be clear sailing.

Come on out!!

and the next Mesquite Auction is March 13th

Sephroth, I won't play any DDR in your honor....that would be a bad tribute.

Oh and one more thing that may be interesting to at least see is a neo candy.  I've never seen one before.  29" monitor and it can be rotated.  It's a sit down so it didn't fit my taste, but it was a MAME waiting to happen if you ask me.  He's got a bunch for sale.

As far as numbers go, at auctions about half dozen or so of us BYOACers usually surface, but I'm thinking more might show up since this is more MAME/BYOAC oriented.

come and hang out, talkshop, find some resources, and eat a burritos

DDR is also a good source of embarassment. :)  It's kinda like riding a pink moped....really fun.....until your friends see you doing it  ;)

I'll be moving to Fort Worth later this year, so perhaps I'll rendezvous with you all then.

Is there some sort of "secret" handshake or word that I need to know to identify myself?

LOL, the secret passphrase is "got any Roms", it should never be uttered over a whisper.

Actually there is a corner booth kinda where you begin to order, we'll try and snag that whole area.  While your waiting in line I'm sure you'll overhear some arcade talk.

I'll be sporting some sort of Yankee garb be it jersee or hat  ;D.  and maybe somebody will bust out the BYOAC shirt.

If anybody wants my cellphone, PM me

See you guys Sat.

Neil

DOH!
I wish it were any other day...
I'm gonna be at a wedding that day. Hm... yeah... no getting out of it. They're both friends & I want to try & be there for them. Oh well.  There is a slim chance I won't be going to the wedding, but I'm not banmking on that right now.

Make sure to get a little time in on the air hockey tables for me. :P

Grrr....
We'll have to plan this like a week or 2 after every auction so we can talk shop & about what we scored @ auction (or just our latest projects).  The next auction is March 13th... I'm gonna try to make it, although I don't think I'll be picking anything up there.

Later!

Tmas,  I was wondering where you were gonna be...I guess a friends wedding is a good excuse  ;)

Hey I've got a baby shower that day and I'm going...and it's my kid!!  It's a couples deal and not till evening so I'm cool..I hope  ???

Anyways for the next one, I found the perfect place if we want to keep mixing it up.  Dave and Busters off of Loop 12.  They have some great games like Time Crisis 3, but also....

A showcase Ultracade (didn't play it, but examined it well)
Class of 81  Galaga/Ms Pac
The Millipede/Bowling/Missle Command Combo
Space Invaders / Qix

The new Space Invaders is so great looking.  All they need is a multi-williams.

Although they don't have old cabs and parts for sale.  Or 29" arcade monitors laying around like Tornado's does.

Looking forward to seeing everybody.

Hey guys, It was nice to meet Nannuu, HagHore & NY_in_TX. I hope to go to the auction on the 13th.  Maybe I can snag an extra cab to use for a 2nd MAME cab...

PS...
DDR is NOT my type of game... I will NEVER be seen on it EVER again...  ;D
Thanks,
