Can't make 31khz modes horizontaly wider with Arcade-OSD
« on: April 28, 2019, 03:28:37 pm »
Hi there

so I'm up and running with my other machine.

I use the Pstar preset as I use a polostar 25 in my cabinet. Everything so far is pretty well aligned horizontally and vertically, just 2 custom 31khz modes can't be made wider horizontally and I don't know why.

I have two custom modes, 640x480 for Demul, and 704x480 for Singhe. Both are horizontally too narrow, giving me black borders that are probably 1cm to each side. I was fiddling around with front and backporch but it seems like the numbers that have been provided by VMM are the problem here and I'm hitting a wall within Arcade OSD. If I can align these two modes I can leave the others alone.

Any help would be appreciated!

If I look very closely at those pics... it seems to be working?

Look at the lower left corner. The top screenshot shows the white border being cut off. You change the back porch up one notch (by using the centering command, not the individual back porch setting, which you could also use). And presto, the second shot shows the white border in the lower left. The whole left side of the screen has been pulled inward a notch.

Back porch is left side, front porch is right side.

Hey. You Look at two different resolutions having the same problem.

So I do, so I do. Hmm, how did you create these custom resolutions? Via VMM and it's config files?

Okay! Just wanted to make sure.

They're added to the super resolution list and then being created by vmm.

How many modes are you adding to the EDID emulation? I ask because modes in the EDID emulation cannot be altered. Because EDID emulation is so helpful, you need it on, but adding extra modes will lock them and their timings, so you cannot adjust them.

After that, can you try altering the timings in ArcadeOSD - which is doing nothing here - then put those values into the range lines in mame.cfg, and see if game load up with adjusted modes?

The next step might be to redo your VMM config with different horizontal timings and see if that helps.
