newbie question here
« on: February 10, 2004, 05:31:35 am »
hi everyone!  I was just curious if you could clear something up with me.  When there is a new version of mame released does that mean you have to get a set of roms specific for that release?  The reason I ask is I have a rom set which I beleive is somewhere in the mame 50's era that I am trying to run on mame36 finale.  They played fine with mame056 but I thought I might get more speed droping down to a different version of mame.  Well now load time is horrible and arcadeos runs slow as ever.  Could this be because of the rom set I'm using.  Thanks for any help I can get.

Each Mame update has a variety of new roms and sometimes changed Roms.  These are Roms that are redumped to fix earlier errors.

You will have problems with a rom set from mame .56 and mame36 final.  Not with all roms, but with some that have been changed up to that point.  I think, though, that usually they will simply fail to load

The problems you report are strange though.  It sounds likely that you have some other problem on your system.  ArcadeOS should show no speed difference regardless of what mame, roms, or anything else you are using.  It is a completely independent piece of software.

Use ClrMamePro or Romcenter to fix your Roms...

ClrMamePro...  http://www.clrmame.com/

Romcenter...  http://www.romcenter.com/

Read the directions/FAQ's and if you still have questions feel free to ask.

Hope this helps!

thanks everyone for the advice.  I think it may actually be a processor problem but I'm gonna go ahead and try those two links.
