Hey Frostillicus!! --- (or Anyone who knows what this is...)
« on: February 06, 2004, 08:27:59 am »
Frosty,

Didn't you originally do a marquee that had a 3d-ball of hexagons shooting off from the core with light beams coming out of it or something..  ???

I KNOW I remembered seeing SOMEONE do that, I thought it was you, but I've been searching the forums and I can't find it.. -- does ANYONE know what that was.  It was cool as hell, and I was trying to show it to someone yesterday but can't find it :(

Frosty, I like the images from the above tread, maybe something we can use for the CP. Use the jack style thing for a motion direction over the joysticks maybe?

Yeah it is cool - credit for that goes to ROM who made it.  And kudos to him for making it available to everyone :)

Heya Rom...

Is this still available? If so, I thought I would let you know the link is dead.

Also, I was wondering how you made the layers (the hexagons in the image), fly out like that. Was that a AI trick, or a 3D software thing? Either way, its stunning....

I used 3D Max to create it along with Photoshop for touching it up.

I beleive (ROM, correct me if I am wrong) that the hexagons are actually rushing in to the center.  It is an Implosion.

Yeah it was supposed to be an implosion to go along with the name of my cabinet - Fusion. Someone pointed out (can't remember who) that it looked more like an explosion which I would have to agree with. I tried a few ideas to make it look like it was going inwards but they didn't look that hot and if they did it would of been very time consuming doing each hex by hand.
Working on an image of this size on a p3 1ghz with only 392mb of ram can be quite painful at times.

Rom:  What did you use to create the explosion in the first place?  I remember watching the progression from circles to hexgons to all that stuff w/ the characters on it.  I'm just wondering if you used a rendering package to get the explosion w/ the light escaping from it, and if so, which one?

Thanks!

I used 3D Max and you're right it was using a light source at the centre and the hex's cut into it to give the effect I was after. It's been a while since I've done anyting art wise on the computer so I can't even remember what type of light source it was.. sorry.

Everytime I find something cool it's always a broken link :'(
Any chance of putting that hex-implosion artwork online again?  It'd make an awesome wallpaper for my computer I think!
Thanks!

-EDIT
Oh, wait.  Nevermind.  I had only to read a few posts up.  D'oh!  It's under homebrew.

-EDIT #2
