Nope, it can't

I've been after people for ages to make console catvers but nobody is willing to volunteer their time.  So if you want it your gonna have to make it :)

Well each system has approx 4000 games, all of which would have to be played and assigned one of the 128+ categories triggerfin has devised.  So a while to say the least.

Once you do the research and weed out different region titles, dups and such, there are about 1000-1500 for the major consoles(nes, snes, sega). A lot of the categorizing could be done by screenshots, maybe 50-75%. The remaining games or ones that are questionable from shots would just need to be played for 5-10 seconds

Yes, it would take a while to get something usable, but it doesnt seem impossible

Ugh...that sounds even worse than making the screen shots :(

It wouldn't be that bad if there was a group of 5 people who each dedicated time to it.  It is true that you could do most of them through screenshots too.

Try the Mamewah setup.

The last tab has a filter creation and uses SHOOTER, FIGHTER, DRIVER, etc. It works very well in separating the games and takes no time at all. Just create the list and rename it. BOOM you are done.

It works very well for mame, because mame has a catver.  These are console games, no catver in sight.

Sorry, but that's pretty far off the mark.  I don't know what you're referencing or what methods you're using to estimate, but I can say with certainty that most systems don't even come close to 4,000.  Furthermore, if domestic games are all that's being considered, there has yet to be a single system with more than 1,300 game titles.  So... Please explain.

You're right that there are not that many titles, but unfortunately there are many different rom versions for a single title, so that is how you get up to 4000.  Just check how large the good tools databases are.  I think NES is the worst with almost 10000.

Yup I just didn't want to argue.  And in the case of consoles, half of the problem is trying to figure out which games are clones of a parent.  Remember you can't just filter out clones like you do with mame as there isn't any internal rom managment.  There isn't any external managment either, as all available dat files are incomplete or errored.

Oh, I see.  That's terrible.  I'm not a proponent for emulation, though, so please understand my mistake.  'Sorry if I sounded virilent in my first post.
