vertical purity on WG3100
« on: February 04, 2004, 10:41:10 am »
Need some help from you monitor experts.  Decided to try a refurb 3100 from WG.  My intent is put this in an vertical cabinet, like centipede or maybe a pacman/galaga type.

WG rep says if its in an upright mounted horizontal, no problems.  If in a cocktail, need to set "vertical purity".  When I mention I was building an upright but vertical, this stumped the sales rep.  I think I will mount it a a fairly near vertical angle, like the centipede monitors.  I know this has something to do with the Earth's magnetic field.

Anyone know if I need to have the service folks set vertical purity?

Thanks,

Followup--got my 3100 in.  Works great.  Soon as I turn it vertical though, colors are all screwed up (both in cocktail position or upright vertical like Centipede or Pacman).  Looks like it needs "vertical purity"set, whatever that means!

Thanks,

I'm not familiar with that model. Never seen or heard of that one. Maybe you need to degauss it manually?

Ken, thanks, I may try the deguaussing first, it doesn't have an auto builtin, so I guess I have to buy a degaussing coil.

Bump on an old thread.

Anyone ever figure this out?  I have a U3100 I am going to install in a cocktail this weekend.

What the heck is "vertical purity"?

The U3100 looks great right now, but what will happen when I turn it on its back in the cocktail?

Will a degause fix it?

Thx for the help,
-Dweebs

The U3100 has a built in degaussing coil.  When you first use your
monitor you may notice some splotchy colors.  When you turn on your
monitor (plug it in) it will automatically degaus and fix this.  It may
take a few times before it totally clears up (leave the monitor off for
a few minutes in between).  You don't need to do anything specaial
before installing your monitor in its cabinet.  Don't even worry about
the purity before it is in its final location since simply moving it
from one side of the room to the other will affect it.

Ahh thanks again.

I sent you an email reply before I realized you posted your answer on here.  I didn't realize it had a built in degaussing coil.  So the "vertical purity" adjustment that Wells Gardner offers when you purchase one new is, in your opinion, an unnecessary expense?
