Disable onboard graphics or leave it alone ?
« on: February 04, 2004, 12:04:48 am »
Welp here goes
I'm running a pentium 3 933 mhz with an Intel (R) 82810E onboard graphics controller and I don't have an AGP slot so my question is are there any pci cards out there that would out perform this onboard setup. I realize that MAME relies mainly on shear prosessor power but I'm having problems with game speed when I use hardware stretch so I'm wondering if there's a pci card out there that would perform better when using hardware stretch. Does any specific model come to mind or should I try and live with the onboard ?
Thanks :)

TigerDirect (not a favorite retailer, but cheap) used to have Geforce 4MX PCI cards with TV-out.  I have one and it works nicely.

They still release almost all current videocards on PCI. They just, ironically, don't work quite as well as AGP and cost a bit MORE than AGP cards.

Chances are, if you go pick up any 128mb Radeon PCI card, it will run better than the onboard.
