Happ 19" VGA monitor & WinXP
« on: February 03, 2004, 04:54:38 pm »
Ok,

Probably getting ready to shoot myself in the foot...but here it goes! I've recently acquired a Happ Controls 19" VGA Monitor for use with my cabinet running Windows XP. My question is...does anyone have any general knowledge of this monitor and how well it works in a PC enviroment? Also, any good/bad things anyone has heard regarding a monitor like this. Any other misc. information you have regarding this would be great!

I know I should have researched this before buying, but it was such a GOOD deal...couldn't pass it up.

Thanks for any ideas or info,
Craig - Atlanta, Ga. USA

Sorry about that. I knew that Happ Controls "sold" the monitor, I thought it was under their name as well. I've found information about the monitor at the following location:

http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/491337vp.htm

Hope this narrows things down.

Ahh... I have one of those.... a good monitor but it looks nohting like a real arcade image.  Also it can be difficult to mount in a cocktial due to the open frame design.

Glad to hear it's a good monitor (hate to think I simply tossed my money in the trash!)  :P Anycase, when you say "it looks nothing like a real arcade image", does that mean it looks like a PC monitor resolution and the image is TOO sharp and clear?? If so, I guess I could simply add in the scanline command with MAME.

As far as mounting, it will be going into an original Pac-Man cabinet. So, I think, I won't be seeing much of a mounting problem...what do you think???

Anything else about thing monitor worth knowing?

Later,

Yeah, it looks like a pc monitor.

Actually you are going to have a ton of issues mounting it as pacman is vertical and the monitor only is supposed to mount horizontally.

I wonder about the mounting issue. ??? If you go back to the link for the monitor on Happ's website, there is a link for "Mounting Views/Demensions". From the diagrams I see, it should be shelf mounted primarily. Then again, if you look around the actual face of the picture tube in the diagrams, it seems to have mounting brakets there as well, which could assist when mounting this monitor in a Pac-Man style cabinet if you use those along with the shelf mounting brackets.

What do you think?

There aren't any brackets to speak of.... the case will only mount one way and that is accomplished by bolting through the bottom (usually anyway)  I'm not saying it couldn't work, I'm just saying it's not designed to work that way.
