Venting my frustration.

Just wanted to vent my frustration with how much things cost.  Not just arcade stuff, but everything in general.  I need more money!!!  I have been looking into getting a snowboard and they are outrageous, if I get one it will be aproximately $780 for board,boot,bindings, you're probably wondering why I can't go with a cheaper board, so I'll tell ya... I'm 6'8", that means I need a realy big board my feet are size 14, I've only found 2 boards so far that are 172cm.  Grrrr, if I buy a snowboard I'll only be able to afford the controls for my cab.  Well I suppose I can just build some CPs for now.  Well anyway, I'm done, not sure I feel much better but it was worth a try.  Gonna go watch the Pats skin them cats!

At that kind of cost you would just be better off going with a rental board whenever you want to snowboard. I seem to recall them being $12 where I ski.  

Even if they were $20, that would still make for 39 rentals before you were up to the cost of buying one. And realistically, how long is it gonna take you to go out to the slopes 39 times?

Try reading a book on personal finance, it doesn't always make sense to buy some items. Most higher dollar specialized recreational equipment is not a good buy for most people, because you often won't ever get enough use out of the item to justify the purchase (ski equipment, ATVs, small boats, etc).

does specialized recreational equipment include full sized arcade machines in our living rooms? =P  not that im knockin it.. but im just saying. if youre into something you probably want to own your own equipment ya know. although depending on his situation renting might be the better option

I agree, renting is a whole lot cheeper, and would be an excelent option for someone who is "normal" sized, but I on the other hand can't fit into a size 13 boot, which is the largest size I've found at any mountain.  Well that isn't exacty true, I can fit into 13s just extremely uncomfortably.  And using a snowboard that is like 3-4 inches too short doesn't seem to be that big of a deal, but if you've ever gone on the wrong sized board or even skis, you'll know that it makes things exponetially(sp) harder.

Arcade games largely do not depreciate in value. Sports equipment, boats, motorcycles, and such do.

yeah they do theyre as bad as cars. except for the classics (muscle cars) everything else goes down in value the minute it hits the arcade, 2-3 years later that 4000$ machine is at an auction for under 1000

crashwg is dead on the money...it sucks being big.  I also stand 6'8" and weigh in at 270 (yes, it's all muscle... )  

Everything costs more based on your size.  I live near the mountains.  We can't find skis, boards, boots, or even snowmobiles that freakin fit!!!!!  And should we be lucky enough to happen across some second hand stuff, it costs, on average, 20-25% more than the average sized stuff!!!!

I even had to spend more on my cab.  Every set of plans I've seen requires me to bend over to play.  Which hurts my back, legs, and neck.  So, finally, I scrapped them, designed my own, and came up with a cab that's about 6 inches higher than anything else I've seen.  Oh well.  Guess now I'm just venting too.

By the way crashwg, try parabolic skis.  They're about the only thing I've found that works.  Comfortably.  (Of course, I guess you have to find your boots first... )

I don't mean NEW games, I mean old ones. Any arcade game more than 10 years old has stopped depreciating.

Hmmm, maybe I'm over simplyfying things but couldn't you just take any plan and make it 6 inches taller?

Course all of us normal sized people need a stool to play on your cab...

Yeah, that's really sort of what I did.  I based my final off of lusid's design, and made some other modifications to the dimensions.  The bottom line was that I needed something that would accomplish this:

1.  Fit my height
2.  Fit my hands
3.  Fit my line of sight, within reason.  I didn't want a 9 foot cab.

The answer wasn't as simple as I thought it would be.  Just adding six inches to the base wasn't quite enough.

Anyway, I won't really rant about it, but the bottom line is that all the major components required a few more inches here and there, which required an extra sheet of MDF.  

Oh well.  If only I was 6'3".....
