I think if you just bump the letters up a bit so the bottom tips of a couple of them aren't getting chopped off it will be perfect. Looks really great to me!

yeah i agree.  if the letters were bumped up it would be good.  and im wondering if it would look fine just leaving it as is.  i want to say "hey can you try this character in the background" but im sure its a pain in the ass to shadow those guys and put them in the background like that.  so just whatever pixel has time for ;D

I know I'm slackin' ;) It's my fault for trying to juggle multiple commitments. I'll get back to the Mamestrosity revisions soon...hopefully tonight! I've been trying to get each of the projects I've promised to about the same point. I know it's got to be frustrating! Hopefully it's worth the wait!  ::)

Well I've vectorized Bison and did a small marquee revision that uses him to replace the other Street Fighter characters (and moves the type back up). Here are my thoughts:

1. Bison doesn't work very well as a silhouette due to his hat and cape...these obscure the normal face/body/hair outlines that are necessary for the character to be recognizable as silhouette.  So far I haven't been able to find any decent images of Juggernaut or Venom.

2. I really like the dynamic feel (in the previous version) of the characters fighting as opposed to just standing there posing.

3. Since I'm so bogged down, it may better for me to use time to work on the CP overlay unless you really want to revise the marquee before continuing.

So.... if you're set on using the larger characters in the background I'll need your help. Since I can't find any good images of Venom or Juggernaut, and since Bison doesn't work very well, I'd need you to get images of characters you'd like. Keep the following in mind:

A. The characters would need to have plenty of face/body/hair detail in their profiles. (I think Juggernaut has body armor that wouldn't be recognizable as a silhouette?)

B. Ideally they'd be fighting as opposed to just posing. I can combine fighting from different scenes, but the blows/contact/positions would need to be compatible.

C. Their stances will need to be visible above the Mamestrosity type and below the top edge of the marquee (so no crouching, ducking or low kicks, etc.)

That's about it. Let me know.

.....and if you decide not to change the characters in the marquee, here's a last tweak I'd recommend to the existing version. It flops the characters so the action is a bit more visible.

okay, that last revision looks fantastic!  switching the characters and moving the type up made it look a lot better (it was great before though ;D).  so i think ill just leave it as is and take that last one you did with the two figthers.

and ill pm you about the other stuff.  thanks again!  ALL HAIL PIXELHUGGER!!!! 8)

here are some images that ive found on the www.images.google.com thing.  this first one is a good one, but its small.  ive looked it and blew it up to a larger size, but im afraid it may be too pixelated.  i dont know what else to do other than to figure out what game this is on and take a screen shot of it.  anyway, since these images are .bmp format i cant post them here, but i can post the links, so here you go...

First Image

heres another of ken in the game doing the hadoken thing. i have one of ryu doing the same thing, but that kinda sucks in my opinion.  but here it is anyway

Second Image

tell me what you can do pixel!!!

Hey Hulk. See your PM for info on this. The horizontal arrows indicate distance from the sides of the CP, vertical arrows indicate distance straight down from top edge. Small arrow indicates distance to top edge of button hole.

Just an opinion: Don't make the common mistake of overcrowding the marquee with all your faves!  I think the marquee as it sits is absolutely golden now, and any more characters would just clutter things up.

the marquee is staying the same dude.  hes working on the cp art right now.  the marquee is only having the two guys fighting in the middle.  but i agree, too much action in the marquee takes away from the cab itself.

Obviously, joysticks and buttons get mounted over the type so it becomes more of a background image. The black circle is the trackball location.

wow man, that looks really really cool.  one thing...do you think the words MAMESTROSITY will be too overbearing for the cp and the marquee together? i mean, obviously the marquee has to have that, but do you think its too much for the cp?  not complaining AT ALL ;D ;D, but just curious as to what you think.

Well, I think you could go either way. Remember that once the controls are on top, the name will stick out less. Of course, it could also look cluttered depending on where the controls actually fall on the art.

If you're concerned about overemphasizing the name then I'd go with something like this... player numbers may not be your thing so those could either come off or if you like them, could be taken further, with numerals behind them etc.

Unfortunately, all of the blue colors in this illustration are currently out of gamut. If you tried to print tis as it were in a CMYK color format, this is what it would print like:

Remember to take care that your images are CMYK friendly when designing things on a computer, especially when the file you're working on is in RGB. ~_^

I usually work in RGB because of the wider gamut and since classicarcadegrafix.com uses an RGB printing system that isn't plauged by the magenta shift encountered with CMYK conversion, it hasn't posed a problem. If this will be printed elsewhere I'll need to recreate the gradients in CMYK, although I'd STRONGLY recommend classicarcadegrafix since I'm familiar with their reproduction of my work. See blue example below. I do appreciate the heads up though  :) Thanks Motorfish. BTW, I love your CP!

looks awesome!  but um, only one problem....the numbers are out of order!  yeah, the two in the middle should be player 1 and player 2, and then the one on the far left edge should be 3, and the one on the far right edge should be 4!  sorry dude, i thought i told you that.  so.....2 should be 1, 3 should be 2, 1 should be 3, and 4 remains the same.  understand? i hope thats not too much of a burden to change.  hopefully its in layers and you can just swap it out!  let me know if this sucks too much...sorry man, it looks so cool though. ;D

That's no problem at all to change. I must have missed the heads up on that.

I think numbers or no numbers is a subjective thing. I really like it both ways. I guess it depends on the look you're going for.  :)

hmm, what do you think man?  i think the numbers will look good, but im not entirely sure.  i dont want the cp to look too plain, but as of right now, there is no way to tell what player is what.  i guess the start buttons will tell, but i think the numbers will give a little more direction to it.

as a side note pixel....i talked to the arcadegrafix dude and as you know im trying to get my cp art done by thursday the 27th (my older brother and family is coming to my house for like the first time in forever and wont be back very often, so i wanted to have it done by then!) well he said that he is going to do a batch of prints and stuff on sunday, and said he could have it to me before the 27th if i could give it to him by then.  im out of town right now, but i will be back in town on sunday afternoon, so is it possible to have it ready for me to print off by then?  im talking tomorrow afternoon.  i want to be able to create a mockup and print it out on my printer to make sure that it fits and everything.

also, pixel i like the numbers, but is too much trouble to take off the circles?  i dont know what else to put there...i mean i think i like the way it is, but i think the circles take away from the "destruction" look and feel to the marquee.  it makes it cleaner, and im wanting a more of a "shock" look, as are the fonts.  what do you think?anyway, if this is too much of a pain and you cant get it done by tomorrow afternoon then dont worry about it and just send the files to me like you said you were gonig to do.  thanks man.

I'll make some revisions and email a few versions. Switching the numbers around. Removing circles. Leaving numbers in, taking them out etc. So you can choose what to send. I tried to print this out at work the printer was down. Definitely should be tested before printing. Maybe I can send a black and white line art jpeg at full size for you to print. That way you can see where the lines and numbers fall without the file size becoming too large to get over the internet and without using all your ink cartridges.  ;)

And finally OPTION C would be with just like B but without any numbers. (No image attached)

All of these images are ready to send as AI files to the printer as is the marquee.

Let me know which you are interested in and I can send them to you over AIM. I should be online SUN around 8am PST. If I'm not, PM me on the boards here with a time to check in via AIM.

Since you cant printout an AI file, and using PhotoShop will mess with the colors and may not tile the printouts I'll send PDFs. You'll need Acrobat to open them (free from Adobe's site www.adobe.com) Let me know if you want them B&W to save ink. And remember on your home printer the blues may look like the purple example Motorfish posted  :P
