Analog+ & Act-Labs--AGAIN!
« on: January 31, 2004, 12:52:44 am »
I've seen some good reports on the Act-Labs guns with Analog+ and wanted to get some clarification from people who are actually using it.
What I'd REALLY like is reports from someone who has SWITCHED to it recently, or experimented around with the different versions.

1) I've seen reports that it lets you reload on Area 51 by "shooting offscreen normally".
Is this REAL shoot offscreen reloading (like being able to miss the edge of the screen by a couple inches), or the push button "simulated" kind?
I'm currently using mame 78 (non-analog version); which, according to the reports I've read, has "improved lightgun support" and "offscreen reload capability".
I didn't have a lightgun until this version, so I have nothing to compare it to.

As far as performance on MY equipment goes, the "shoot at the edge of the screen" method is fair at best (usually takes me 2 shots) and I have problems with using the "reload button simulated" method because it puts the cursor at the top-left corner, but my SHOT is about an inch in and an inch down usually, which doesn't trigger the reload.

2) If Analog+ is using the reload button to simulate offscreen reloading, does it do a better job than the regular version?

3) Did they build the Analog+ improvements I've been reading about into the version I've got?

4) Is there a way to adjust my gun/screen/program combo to get more reliable button triggered reloads?
As I said above, the CURSOR goes all the way top-left when you press the button, but the SHOT is off a bit.

I've got the gun calibrated as well as I can get it.
The cursor jumps almost exactly to the aimpoint while SHOOTING, it just misses on the button reload.
It's almost like it's triggering the shot just before the cursor makes it to the top left.

5) Are there any features in Analog+ that would make it worth upgrading to before I get my second gun, second spinner and multiple trackballs?
Right now I've got one of each, and the primary reason for Analog+ appears to be multiple trackball/spinner/lightgun support.

OK, I think that's all the questions I have at this point.
Thanks for reading. :)

Area51 and maxforce seem to be "problem games"  There hasn't been any real improvment as to the reloading issue.  The offscreen reload switch now in mame is an option to turn offscreen reloading OFF.  Afaik it's still the same exact code when it's turned on.  The idea is for those games with issues, you turn it off and use the second mouse button (found on the side of your gun) to reload instead.  I haven't played with it that much to be honest.
