Open-Source software list!

Well, this thread may be considered bliss for many people but i think it should be a sticky one!

There's lots of people here tweaking, creating, and also contributting for new software by any means necessary so i thought about a list of open-source software of all kind that could be usefull and also a alternative for hacking, cracking etc.

Blender 3D publisher, is a "very small" 3D program that has lots of functions and it's quite simillar to the expensive 3D programs for sale in the market like 3D Studio Max for example! There's also a great tutorial that makes the program easy to understand! I'm not trying to promote the program, i'm trying to discover Open-Source software around to use in my future projects like the rest of you guys!

blender 3d is mentioned in the artwork forum, and a vector program.


the gimp (www.gimp.org) is a free image editor.  Has a steep learning curve.

I still think that this topic should be posted here! There's a lot of free/open source programs that are actually as good or even better than the ones on sale!

I think it's a good idea. I'll start off by suggesting a good free CAD program - TurboCAD 4 Learning Edition. For some reason it's no longer on Imsisoft's website but I've found it somewhere else:

Also, a few months ago I got hold of a totally free fully functional version of TurboCAD 7 that came with a computer magazine.

I'm still looking for a free vector graphics package that will import the images from the vector library. I certainly can't afford to buy Adobe Illustrator.

don't know of any programs to add to your list.  But I would think that this thread would get more exposure in the software forum.

SirPoonga already mentioned the G.I.M.P.  It handles vector files, as long as you have Ghostscript installed.  Ghostscript is also free.  You can download Ghostscript for Windows, and the gimp for Windows(it's called WinGIMP).  I can find the links for you if you want me to.
