Win7 64 weirdness
« on: February 20, 2017, 12:22:48 am »
Am in the middle of upgrading my SW Cabaret from a wonderful TinyXP64 to Win764 so I can run more modern games.

So the cab is not on the web, I don't know if I should go buy a cheap wifi card or what (for a mass update of everything) but what a buggy pita this OS is being on this machine.  It hangs, a lot.  Only for like 2-3 seconds, but those hangs are annoying, like at the start of every mame game, just once but annoying.  Paperboy hangs.  WTF.  Wondering if it's a driver issue, need to dig into the hardware menu and see what's working right and what isn't.

Tomorrow I'll hopefully be getting SP1 on it so I can get the C++ runtimes installed for modern Dolphin and PS2.  What's frustrating is that I'm able to run fewer titles out of the box than I was with my crummy TinyXP.

Hydro Thunder isn't working, because my monitor is upside down (viewing angles) in TinyXP HT didn't care, all of the sudden in W7 it's confused to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- and trying to interlace both a rotated and non rotated version together.  I've already installed all my nvidia drivers and other stuff like Mario Kart GP2 are working well but Hydro will only look normal if I turn off 3D acceleration, which pretty much makes the game a disgusting pile of garbage to look at. If I turn off landscape rotate it works fine, but is upside down.

And Howard's Offroad Thunder program still isn't working, which is decidedly disappointing because that's the whole reason I upgraded (well like the deciding reason).  Maybe after SP1 and some other updates.

Really this post is just to vent and say, 'holy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- this is annoying'.

I had to put a temporary halt on racing cab software because it's so damn fiddly that it literally was taking up all my free time.  If you'll remind me the next time I start on that stuff again we'll take a look and maybe we can figure out the reason it isn't working for you.

I had some modest luck getting Outrun 2 FXT bugs squashed for a couple of guys lately and the wrapper is running on the same engine, so hopefully I can figure it out.

It's all cool man. I really appreciate all you've done. Just wished this wasn't such a two steps back process with the OS.
