Game Sound / Performance Issue

This has happened twice and I can't seem to fix it.

1st, playing MK, the game plays great, I noticed that the sound was low, so I hit F2 and turn up the game.  Everything is great.  I exit the game and when I come back to it, the sound crackles and the game plays really slow.  I rebooted, doesn't help.  
Same thing just happened when I upped the volume on Killer Instinct.
You might say that these games run too slow anyways or something.  They have run great on this machine since I've built it, until now.   I have tried going back in a changing the volume again, but it doesn't seem to help.

System Specs:
Celron 2.6mghz
512 Ram
Windows Mame with Mamewah FE

Please help, these are my favorite games.

Most of the crackled sound is caused by you turning the volume up too high.  Don't make it above 75-80%.  Also those games just have poor sound emulaiton period, so it won't eliminate all the probs.  

I can tell you that the games being slower just because you turned up the sound is in your head.  You must have changed something else you aren't aware of. Also if you haven't rebooted your pc in a while, do so.  Memory leaks build up over time.

Hmmm.. ok.  Thanks for the response.  I'll take your word for it being in my head.  You have done this a lot longer than me LOL

Which volume should i keep to 75-80%....?  The one where you hit ~ or in F2?

Its not just you dude,  I get the same trouble with the crackling sound.  My game doesn't seem to slow down so much, but the distorted sound and crackling is HORID lol.   Always makes me mad that when i'm right in the middle of a match with a friend, the sound will start going whacky.   TICKS me off.   I have yet to hear anyone give a real reason for it.  Some people get  the nasty sound, some don't .  Who knows.

Read above, I never said the crackling sound wasn't an issue... I was referring to slower performance as you up the volume.  


Btw, I meant the volume in  the game's menu.  Mame's volume and windows should be left alone.
