Spare / Duplicated Keys in standard MAME setup
« on: February 08, 2017, 08:50:30 am »
Hi Folks, Im using a four player CP with an iPac setup to the standard MAME control keys.

Ive noticed a couple of things recently and wondered if you folks could comment on them :

1. Player Two uses I and K for B5 and B6. I and K are also used for Up and Down for Player Three. WTF? I assume Ill need to pick out some spare key's and remap - but is there any logic to this?
2. Using my setup I only have a handfull of unused keys left - 9 and 0, C, P and T. Is it possible to use any other none-alphabet keys on the keyboard reliably for mapping? Im thinking some of the symbols - []\;',./ or HOME, END, INSERT, DELETE etc?

Many Thanks

Mark

MAME Player 2 Button 5-8 default keys are undefined and Player 3 directional default keys are I, K, J, and L.

Why do IPac2, IPac4, and KeyWiz use I, K, J, and L for Player 2 Button 5-8 default keys?   :dizzy:

Thats a good question. I cant remember all the details but it was some time back in 2001, the I-PAC 2 came first and Mame did not have any keys assigned for player 2 SW 5-8. But I got those keys from somewhere, it was another emulator. I cant remember exactly which one, might have been Callus.

Then when the I-PAC 4 came out I had to assign the Mame defaults for player 3 and these overlapped unfortunately.
