Best video hard for crt_emudriver??
« on: January 06, 2017, 06:13:07 pm »
Hi.

I need to buy a graphic card, because my ati 4850 have problems with some games like taito type x games in interlaced mode running at half speed.

What is the better graphic card compatible? I will use crt_emudriver 2.0 and windows 7 x64

I have read the better cards are hd5xxx, hd6xxx and hd7xxx, so i'm interested in buy something like ati hd6950 or 7970, but i'm not sure with hd7xxx series, because it could have problems if they are released after catalyst modified drivers (2011 i think).

I want emulate demul so I need the better graphic card compatible with the drivers. Could you help me in my choice?

Thanks!

I don't recommend to explore the upper limits of the supported range, unless you already have the hardware and want to test.

Check this thread for instance: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,152767.0.html
There are some others.

I wouldn't buy yet however. Either buy a cheap 6450 or wait till I release a new Emudriver version.

Taito Type X games are certainly not guarateed to run either way. These are pirated games glued to a launcher that has a poor support for non-standard resolutions.

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Seconded. TTX is *really* finicky. It's impossible to recommend a card for it - try the games on one combination of hardware and a given number of titles will work fine; try them on a second computer and a completely different list of titles runs. The fact they're originally running (encrypted or under a modified instruction set?) on XP probably doesn't help, but I wouldn't recommend switching to XP either, as people say it doesn't help.

That said, I do ok on a 6870 and 6950. I have both patched with Atom15 and they work well overall. They do need far more power and more connectors, and generate far more heat, than something like a 6450. But I wanted to run games like Grid and Dirt as well as emulators, and the CPU's i'm using are old old old.

...wait till I release a new Emudriver version.

Was that a teaser? Anything you'd care to tell us? ;)

For Taito type x games i have find a loader and works fine.

Now the main problem is with model 3 emulator... (supermodel).

I think i will wait with my graphic card.

Calamity thanks for your great driver and support.

And once you change graphics cards, it may not. I hope it works though, but be warned.

I posted this in another thread but didnt get a response. Can you guys shed some light?

I just build a new PC running win 7 x64 ultimate that I wanted t replace my XP machine that I had hooked up to my Quad sync Billabs CRT. I just picked up a used 7950HD installed 2.0 beta 8 driver and noticed that Hyperspin mp4 videos dont play and are solid green. I saw a thread about it a few years back and the fix was to disable hardware acceleration in firefox browser but that didnt work. I dont have the computer hooked up to CRT yet, its only hooked to a lcd monitor as I am still installing and configuring my emulators. If I uninstalled the driver and leave the default windows driver it does play the mp4 vids. I also tried installing VLC and a codec package.

Anyone else have this issue? Is the 7950 ati card compatible or did I get the wrong card? I see in this thread people are saying to run 6xxx series card. I can pick up a 6970HD sapphire card for a cheap price. Can someone let me know asap as I only have a few days to send back the 7950 to get a refund.

Hi bent98,

Check this: https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher

On the first post, ToastyX provides some workarounds for the issue. It's a known problem and it's by design (the drivers break video acceleration purpousely when they are patched).

I'll try it out tonight. What about the video card model?
Can I use the 7950hd or do i need to go with a 6xxx series?

ok so the fix was to disable hardware acceleration in the adobe flash player. I couldn't access it until i found a website that used flash. Once my browser was playing a flash video only then could I right click and disable it.
Now back yo my video card questions.

Do you have the card already? If so, and the drivers did got installed, it'll probably work.

The drivers cover a wide range of cards with plenty of them which have been successfully tested. I can test just a few, and always as a rule I do my tests on budget cards of each series. If you as users insist on exploring the upper range right where uncertainty begins (exactly what I don't recommend), it's because you're happy with the experimentation task, which is of course benefitial for all us.

Test mode is required for Windows to load the driver. If the watermark annoys you, there's a tool somewhere to remove it. It has zero side effects over the OS behaviour.

Ok so then I will test. Will these drivers support max amount of mode-line variations? I remember reading in one of the threads certain video cards only supported 10.

All cards (HD 5000+) supported by driver do support the same features.

In the worst case there's a new Emudriver version in the kitchen that will support all cards up to 2016.

There is a patch somewhere for the 10 custom res limit  ;D

Calamity, did you manage to easily add the modeline generator to latest drivers?

Good to hear :)
I shall wait to update my cabinets then!

Is this going to be the signed one?
Do you need donations for that yet?
