Captain America vs. The Punisher Complete

Project complete let me know what you think. Skipped doing progress picks this time. Made from Melamine, wouldn't recommend it for a new builder. Raspberry pi run. Comics sealed and glazed center and both sides. Much cheaper and looks better than Plexi in my opinion. Enjoy

I'm sorry, it's way too busy for my tastes. But if you like it, that's all that matters.

How you seal and glaze the comics on the sides?

Pretty simple process just need to be careful. Take your comics and glue them to surface with Mod podge glue. Making sure to get out al the excess. Go over the top with about 5 coats of spray acrylic sealer to help limit the bleed through. Then apply however many coats of glaze you want. I used Famowood clear wood glaze but you can use whatever. Make sure to tape of edges prior to to limit runoff, then hot box werever you have it sitting for about 5-8 hours. The hotter the space the faster it cures. Then done.

No big, I mean I could just make another full black or full white or even full gold like everyone else. Not really being original if we all do the same thing.

Neat look, but I would have gone with larger posters of the super heroes.

Thanks. Thought about it. Also thought about throwing larger versions of their emblems on the side. But when you got comics for days I used what I had.

Looks a little top heavy. Where did you get the plans for this cabinet?

Also, curious where the speakers are located?
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

Where are the speakers? I would expect them to be in the large blank area above the monitor. Also, are you lighting the area around the monitor?

Love the comic idea.  The mod podge method is a nice alternative for those of us who are not artsy and can't spend a ton on custom vinyl so thumbs up for that.

Personally the only thing I don't like at all is the lack of a proper bezel hiding the frame of your monitor.   I would simply remove the monitor bezel plastic, tape it off for the monitor opening, and then spray paint the monitor surround gloss black.  That way the monitor frame won't be visible and the black surround will give a nice contrast to the white panels around it.  It would also help with the light bleed you are getting around the perimeter of your monitor from your marquee.  This would be a very easy and cheap way to really give the cabinet a completely finished look. :)

Yeah, i hope that doesn't fit in any hot box I get.

but your idea gave me another.
a thin coat of acrylic resin for bartops would work also i bet.

The monitor itself has great built in speakers so there is no need. The blank area above the monitor was left on pupose for future artwork. Yes the area around the monitor is lighted. Its just in the picture the monitor isnt flush but its on a swivel mountband can be easily moved.

Noted i have removed monitor surrounds before and have watced the exposed wires go from good to bad so a little timid with that. Bleed through is on purpose just bad positioning in the photo.

Suprisingly its pretty balanced in weight. Didnt get any plans. Saw this design in many places, In this forum too, and just made it fit my needs. So while its not completely original i drew up my own plans.

Quick question on the type of comics you used.  I am considering a similar approach.  It looks like you used a combination of covers and interior pages.  I was considering using some 80's era comic fodder, but I am concerned that the paper is too thin for the interior pages.  Did you use more current comics with higher grade interior pages?  I haven't collected in over 20 years - but I assume new comics may have higher grade paper for pages?

Sorry - I was referring to the clear plastic piece you have put over your monitor.  Not the monitor bezel itself.  Tape off and paint the plastic piece you have over the monitor so only the monitor opening shows.  That's what I was suggesting :)

I think if my base color was black that would work but being that its white it might come out kinda ---smurfy---. As for the comics. I've made a table using this same process and used some 90s era comics. What you suspect is right. The older the comic the more likely bleed through will be. So you would see what appears to be wet spots in the comics. If you use the older ones i suggest really throwing on the extra layers of sealer. But even with that the glaze will probably bleed through a little as it did with mine. All in all you can use the interior pages of the older comics just apply more sealer.
