I doubt it'll be their last try.  They've been faltering quite a bit lately in many areas, but not in the revenue/profit dept.

They'd probably have to totally eat mud for two more console generations before they even considered exiting the hardware market.

That said, this mystery dual-screen device doesn't sound very appealing.  I suppose I'll reserve judgement, but I don't expect much from it.  Sounds super gimmicky like the Virtual Boy (which they recovered just fine from).

It would be pretty neat if the idea of stereoscopic 3d gaming is somehow involved in the idea (a la Virtual Boy, I guess).

It's absurd that they continue to produce hardware.  It's not their core competency, they have to go to IBM and ATi to design hardware for them to slap their names on and lose money on.  Back in the day when they controlled the production of carts, and charged insane licensing fees, it made sense.  Now all you get as the hardware supplier is a big gamble and a huge out of pocket expense when the system first hits.  They should stick with what they're good at... software.

I think that the gameboy advance sp is a pretty slick piece of hardware.  However, the original gameboy advance was horrible because the only way to see the screen was to go outside and play in the bright sunlight!

Nintendo has been struggling for years. N64 and Gamecube both got slaughtered by Sony, and now Microsoft.

They've got the market on handhelds but with Sony's PSP being released next year, Gameboy could be in trouble as well.

It's a shame, because the NES still goes down as my favorite system.

nintendo lost its cutting edge. they came out with n64 when sony was doing CDs. then they come out with mini CDs?? but that doesnt really matter, what mattered was the only games that were good were zelda, mario, or metroid related. nothing new they make is good anymore. when i think of nintendo i think of SNES, playing the best RPGs out at the time, chrono trigger, secret of mana, FF 6, now they just having nothing....  im actually selling my gamecube on ebay cause i never use it, i have like 4 games for it and i bought it the week it came out.

Before you sell it you might want to give Eternal Darkness, Viewtiful Joe, Ikaruga, Pikman, Super Smash Bros, F-Zero, Mario Golf,  Super Monkey Ball, Animal Crossing and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles a go.  All of these games are exclusive to the system and they are all spectacular.  Resident Evil 4 and another Metroid are also right around the corner, so by the time you've played a couple of those games you might have a couple more reasons to hold off.

Admittedly there are a lot more good games for PS2 than Gamecube, and Xbox has intoxicating hacking/pirating potential, but, seriously, a NEW Gamecube is $99.  It's a steal considering just the list of exclusive titles above, not to mention Zelda: Windwaker, Metroid Prime, Factor 5 Star Wars games, and all the usual suspects that appear on all three consoles (i.e. Madden, SSX, Tony Hawk, etc).

If $99 is a steal, it's certainly at least worth $60, which is the most you're going to get for a used one.
